How to get work in non canvassing areas
« on: November 05, 2008, 04:44:09 pm »
I just wanted to get some advice on how to get round this problem, as a large proportion of the area i can target is in non canvassing areas, and there is a very negative reaction generally to door knockers.

I am asking as i have read that alot of work is aquired by canvassing directly.

Thanks

Absolutely and utterly ignore the "This is a non canvassing area" signs.

I have them where I live and work. They're Council inspired to try and scare off the minority who prey on little old ladies. The council (with police approval) put these signs up rather than have Bobbies on the beat to deter the conmen/robbers because the signs are massively cheaper!!

As I say, totally ignore them but obviously have your card in hand when you knock.

Most times door knockers are trying to sell something that ain't wanted....you're not!

Good luck!

Are you saying there are actually "road" signs saying this as opposed to signs on individual houses round your way?

A good way around this is to try this method. Post leaflet and call back to anyone who leaves it in the window. I've not tried this myself yet but will in the New Year, people who have tried it say it works well.

Yep...road signs ::) What bored w@nker in Wandsworth Council was paid grillions to think this one up! No wonder this country is going into recession!

Where I live there are signs everywhere saying no cold calling zone, they are on lamp posts, I had a team of canvassers knock in an area like this the police were there within 30 mins, but it is annoying all the same half the area we cover has this

You can still leaflet in those areas. I would be happy to make the road where I live a no canvassing zone. We get people knocking on our door all the time and it really annoys me.

I can easily see why they do it

It's a tough one, because leaflets don't really work well, yet canvassing can be so obtrusive; I hate canvassers knocking at my door.

I've canvassed, but don't like it and only do it when I know that I'm in an area a window cleaner has dropped.

There's no real answer to this question, apart from getting one customer in the area and then building up from there by recommendation and by being 'seen'.

It takes years to build up a good domestic round!

Nonsense ,

just knock, knock and knock again

I built up a very good full time domestic round 18 months ago when i first started in 2/3 months , i was knocking every evening and every weekend.

Regarding the no cold calling zones i was canvassing one of these this saturday and i had a few people who mentioned it , needless to say these were people that didnt need a window cleaner anyway , what is the difference to people saying "we already have a window cleaner" or people saying "dont you know this is a no cold calling zone" both of these responses is a no so just move on to the next door and remain as positive and friendly as possible ;D
