Ok, well im interested in it. And I followed the original Nathanael threads on it ( though I found it difficult to follow, as the system seemed to change constantly!!!  )

And now theres the L5 heater, I havent been following this topic at all ( due to not being on the forum much ). And when I go to have a look, theres 10 pages going on about stuff I dont know!!!

I know the principle is simple. Connect the heater to the gas bottle and have it heat the water etc on demand. But is this L5 suitable for the job, is it simple to retro fit? some help please!!

well reading through all the posts.. it does get a bit confusing. So if someone could post a DIY guide that would be great.. as there is 10 pages to look through.. and most are asking the same questions..

However, i get the jist of it,

get the L5,
change the regulator for a uk spec version - hook up the water in and out, and test for gas leeks, and your set to go.

Get a LPG gas sticker for the van/car as its a legal requirement i believe.

If you have your doors open when you work, then no need for a flue if you, close them then consider getting one.. dont want CO gas in your van!

Need a bit more info on the thermo regulator whatsitcalled, to stop auto shut off.. that the bit im confused on..

thats the thermo regulator whatismecalledthingy, to stop the auto shut off, which is what i want to know more about in detail

If you don't mind a flow rate slightly higher than normal then yes, a very simple retrofit, no need to modify it. On paper the L5 is supposed to operate at a 1 litre per minute flow,... it seems that some ppl are finding it unreliable unless the flow is higher (some say up to 2 litres a min).
The relay's etc are only needed if you want to use a lower flow rate.

I dont mind spending extra to do it properly, are you saying that that the l5 is too simple Nathanael?

The L5 is just about perfect as far as the heat output range goes,.. and IMO flow rate too. I use a higher flow rate than some though,... so for those that require it there are ways to slightly modify the L5 to suit.

I am with you on this, but my fear is cracking the glass if the water is too hot or the window is badly fitted and under tension.

So long as you are not putting HOT water on to very cold glass then you should be all right. I have mine set to the lowest heat setting so that the water is come out of the brush at the same sort of temp as it would be on a hot summers day, around hand warm... i.e you can feel the water but it doesn't feel hot or cold. My view is that I have never know a window to break by someone just placeing their hand on it so if the water is the same temp then no worries. That way I have piece of mind and no cold hands on frosty mornings. I might well change the temp as I get more use to the system and read more feed back from others about their temps and experiences.

thats how i had mine set to start with but now have it a lot higher dont know how hot
but hot on the hands and every thing has been fine so far

Hi there does the L5 work ok with microbore hose as far as fittings and the the drop on pressure if you have to modify microbore to normal garden hose size.

First of all choose where you want to mount it,you will need more hose a couple of hoselock connectors that are not end stop ones,if they are they will blow off the ends.You will also need fittings that convert it so you can just screw on your hoselock fittings,2 large batterys and that`s basically it.

I've used some rather nice brass hoselock fittings from Gardiners Poles.

I'll post a pic of them tomorrow.

Really secure fitting, and allows a quick release - no problems so far.
