Hi,

im just getting a small portable fan heater ready for the van tonight.

im going to run an extension from an outside socket, into the van,

im putting a plug in timer on the socket.

as its going to be -3 tonight, would you recommend having the heater on for 15 mins out of every hour....? and would you say the socket outside will be safe?


im hanging the heater on a meat hook thing , so away from any water.

does that sound ok to you all?..

i hate electrics.

120w tube heater so shouldn't cost too much to run.

I use an oil filled radiator on low, when below zero.  Worked all of last winter ok. Plus the windscreen is always clear on both sides.

that had some 1000 and 800 watt oiled filled in B&Q for nearly £30, i was tempted, but i dont think im going to need it, cause the van is parked right next to the house, under the car port (squeezed it in )

If in doubt, leave it on all night. Safe not sorry. Plug will be OK if in doubt nail/glue a plastic bag or board over it all to keep water out. Dont forget to use a trip switch if you can get one.
At least you should sleep soundly.

same on ebay for around 17 quid.... will it be ok under port?

Mine was either £29.99 or £19.99 from b and Q is a 1500 with three settings. I have an Expert without a bulkhead. I am sure a 900 turned up a bit would also work ok.

Just pressure the system up with iso in the tank,run water through the pole last thing and then dead end the pole.This will ensure the pump and all hoses have iso in them,nothing will freeze,i`ve been doing this for ages.

well, i did it, the timer on the plug was set for every 15 mins..... woke up to all my neighbours cars thick of ice....

my van had no ice at all.. and inside everything snug as a bug......

but i will buy a small portable oil filled radiator instead of fan heater...

but no defrosting to do in or out... brilliant,..... now comes the worst bit , going out in it.

Same as me........I turn my radiator to '1 and leave it running all night. Last year my heating bills were marginally higher than they would be if I didnt have it on

couldnt you try a portable gas heater from argos page 914 in there catalouge they kick some good heat out turn on half hour before you go and you will have every thing nice and walm .
