« on: October 20, 2008, 04:23:37 pm »
how do you guys get graffiti work? just advertise or do you need to tender for contracts? i dont want to be tied down to big contracts as im a one man band at present and need to fit time for my pressure washing work in too like domestic stuff. anyone any advise on how to go about all this? what happens if you get ask to tender a big contract, how the hell do you price a years work if you dont know how much work you will be doing? or do you say charge £350 a day 5 days a week, 12 months a year?  have not got a clue? ??? ::)

do you have a minimum charge for call out, then base cost on how many tags there are plus chemicals etc. any advise on how to go about it all step by step would be fab,

i always try to help people on here who need advice as i know its hard when your new to a certain type of work.  thanks guys :)

I'm a one man band the same and I have never been asked to quote for anything other than a specific job, I do allsorts from drains to carpets plus the bouncy castles. Grafitti is'nt a regular occurrance around here so its just one off's and they come from either here or mainly the website, if you don't want a contract don't quote on it and tell them why - you'll get more respect by saying the jobs too big to manage than falling short on it. Firms that want the big jobs don't want the small ones so theres your opening and tell them.

drive surgeon,

the best way to get work is to go looking for it instead of waiting for responses to leaflets/newspapers ads or advertising in directories.

you need to make contact with `Facility Managers` or just local branch managers, every largish building or organistion has one!

Start making telephone enquiries;- for example:- phone your local hospital and ask for contact details for there facilty manager,.......send them a letter/leaflet, and follow up with a phone call a few weeks later, the same with police stations or ambulance stations etc,.................set aside one day a week to do this, and to make personal visits.

If you are going to advertise,...............try the `BIFM`

There are loads of business to make contact with that don`t want to get involved in contracts (drive washing being a prime example of a business that is a one off cleaning thing);- try contacting banks, insurance companies, supermarkets, petrol station forcourts, football clubs, garages,.......think of whats in your area!

charge by the metre or a daily rate, and make clear your trading terms, or for example:- they don`t know who you are,.........so give them confidence in hiring you by having a CRB check (it counts for a lot nowadays) and getting a photo of yourself on to a plastic badge with your contact details printed clearly.
 ;)
