Tile cleaning
« on: February 25, 2005, 05:44:33 pm »
Customer has a very small area about 2.5x4 foot area of tile in her hallway at the door.  Not sure what type of tile but there multi colour, very small and make up a pattern.  Quite pourous to feel with a matt finish.

1- What are they?

2- how to do you clean them?

I used solutions stone cleaner with a black pad but it wasent getting the results I wanted.  Should I use a stripper then seal and then polish?

thanks
Mark

You should find out if they have been sealed before. If  they have they might have been sealed with a solvent based sealer. If this is the case you will need a solvent based stripper. If i can remember it is called lithofin. You will waste your time trying to strip these with a water based stripper. I cannot give  you the type of tile . Can you post a picture

these sound like minton tiles.
clean first use a scrub brush and a good cleaner. extract the slurry using a squegee if poss. then strip and extract the slurry get into those corners by hand using a pad. neutralise and seal/polish 2-3 coats.
