Hi All

Any advice on the best method to clean a natural coir carpet - big open area - stuck direct on underlay.

Was going to use microsplitters, but turn the psi right down when extracting so as not to overwet.

Also a number of dog poo stains which they have messed up by using vanish. The vanish has bleached the carpet so they know I can't do anything about that - but will I still be able to get any of the existing stain out and if so, what with ?

I have advised the client that results will be limited but equally I want to clean it safely.
(I don't have a rotary yet so can't bonnet it even if it was an option)

I concur with my learned friend.

Even dry compound can fade the colour, brush a little bit more over a more heavily soiled patch and it will be like "vanish" but bigger. BUT THIS IS THE ONLY SAFE WAY TO CLEAN COIR.

Do not HWE, unless of course you want to own the carpet, albeit a lot smaller than it is now.

I have lightly LM cleaned these before but results are limited.

I could be tempted to try encapsulation with a CRB machine though.

You could do the saw dust thing but you do need a good CRB machine with fine brushes.

As Jim says "respectfully decline" you'll make a friend out of them for later.

Normally charge double, per sq metre price, but promise half the results. Will not fully remove any water based stains.

Happy to let you borrow my E30, have white and gold brushes, as Duo not heavy enough for this type of carpeting  :

I have had good success with M Power misting prior to cleaning with Envirodri powder.

Thanks for the offer Chris - haven't heard back from the client today ref: date for cleaning, so it's possible they are going with someone cheaper even though I would have declined the job prior to your post.

Did a coir carpet with Host about 6 months ago. Informed customer that results would be limited and it may look lighter. Customer happy with that,came up reasonable well,used as little host sponge as I could get away with.

Had similar result with sisal. Seems to be ok as long as you qualify it with customer.
