Tried and mega-tested gloves
« on: October 16, 2008, 07:49:08 am »
Hi all
Over the years I've wasted money on so called hard wearing gloves or so called water proof gloves some of which mentioned on this forum. Can anyone recommend a pair that will last more than one winter?
I'm sick of wasting my money on cheap crap and would like to draw on the old school cleaners here for their advice.
Thanks in advance
Phil.

I have the same problem, all the gloves I have used even though sold as window cleaning gloves are rubbish, they either split or make your hands cold others to bulky for detailing. So i 2 would be interested to find the solution.

The only way you can make any gloves last more than one winter is by not using them much!
I have always budgeted a new pair of gloves each winter and a new pair of gloves each spring. I still have my gloves in very good condition from last winter because down here in Cornwall it was very mild so I mainly stuck with my summer weight work gloves only using the winter ones when needed.

5mm scuba gloves if your WFPing

trad is a different matter as you need them thin to be able to detail, i guess thinner scuba gloves ( 2 or 3  mm )

To prolong the life of gloves. (I'm on the pole btw)

1. Gaffer tape round the high wear areas.

2. Use those polythene gloves as liners to keep your hands dry (ones you get at the garage diesel pumps)
It's a game of three halves!

I wouldn't use Ungers neopreens I used that last year and they are a mess now, I posted a while ago with a pic, anyway I ended up ordering a pair of the ones Trike suggested in a previous post last night.

I let you know how I get on with them when I get them. Trike certainly gave them the thumbs up in his last post about them.

I use bluegrip gloves form a local industrial clothing firm. They are less than £3 a pair and 10 pairs will last out the winter. I would rather these, as I am always sure of having a dry pair at hand. They are flock lined waterproof, been using them for about 5 years now. I wear them all year round.

ok my advice

dont wear gloves at all and after a while your hands will aclimatise to the cold weather becoming hard and of a leathery feel, thus saving money on gloves for years to come

hows that ;D
