Does resin go off or could it be something else.

im using around the same in water,i have had my resin for six months fill di vessel about every 3months

Resin can go off if its not stored properly. How old is your resin?

Resin does need to be stored in an airtight container and away from light. What size vessel are you using for the resin after the RO? If you are using a 700ml canister then you should be able to process about 1500 litres down to 000ppm before it needs changing.

check the seal on the di vessel. never put it in dry as it can crimp and allow bad and good water to mix. Use a silicone spray on the seal not an oil based, as the oil will deteriorate the rubber.

Are you back flushing your ro, and if so are you disconecting it from resin (guess depends on ro you use, have you changed pre filters  without flushing ?) when are you checking the ro out tds ?

I would be checking all of these things, if that all fails it is the resin.

We only use dowex resin, tulsion is also a top leader,

The resin is about 4 months old,but when it was delivered the bag was unsealed.

It is a 200 gpd ro-man,not sure the size of resin cannister,but fairly small.

I recently fitted new pre filters and membrane,but this is working ok as the tds is about 8 or 9 after these, but before the resin.

So I presume it is more likely something to do with the resin

or metal from the carbon pre filter sat in resin eating it

When you say the bag was delivered unsealed do you mean it was split open?

Is the resin cannister you're using one of these:



If so, it is a 250ml version which will last for about 550 litres of polishing.

Or is it one of these:



in which case it is a 700ml version which will last for about 1500 litres of polishing.

I found that resin depletes if its in still water

ie)  if the ro is switched off at night for some reason like your ibc is full.

Keep the ro running 24/7 and see if that makes a difference

Alex,its the 250ml so in that case there cant be alot wrong .

Yea, that's why you need to change it so often, there is nothing wrong with that.

Get a big 10l vessel, or even better, get two, so that if the first is depleted, it still acts as a DI prefilter to the second DI vessel.

another tip is to disconnect the ro to di feed and run off the first 3 or 4 litres each time you start the ro - the first couple of litres can be very high tds so if you run them off before it goes into the di this will also help preserve resin life.

GQC is right as well - get 2 large vessels and run them in-line, you will get about 3 times as much life out 0of the resin.
