Tried to have a marketing day today but got naffed around by a letting agent for a rush job  >:(

So one today, in contrast to 4 jobs and 2 quotes tomorrow.

I normally try to book in two a day, decent sized job first thing and a smaller one in the afternoon

Hi Jim, I've been looking at doing larger jobs but you tend to get what you are given sometimes and also if you let yourself customers will pull you from pillow to post.

I promised myself that I would promote larger jobs but I broke my promise, when they come in sometimes Mrs.Smith who you have cleaned for since the year dot just wants a bedroom carpet cleaned you just have to go and do it with the knowledge that she doesn't want anything else this time and may not book in extra work but hey ho!!

Must admit it seems like average job ticket is getting smaller the last couple of months, haven't checked the stats lately so may be wrong.

Have you thought about how to remedy that Shaun?  Do you price by the metre whether it's 10 or 100?  Or have a sliding scale?

If I'm doing a poxy little bedroom they're probably paying best part of £7 a metre but if I'm doing the whole house it could be down to £3 and I'm still making as much profit as driving round all day doing one carpet per job.

The way I try to sell it is to quote for the one room they want and emphasise the value for money aspect when doing more, and offer to measure up the rest to work it out.  Sure, you don't get many whole houses when they only wanted one room doing but normally you're starting with the lounge so it's a bit less of a jump to stick on the h/s/l or dining room or something.

I do mention it but must emphasise mention, I need to re enforce it, I know some of the FT boys do have a discount button on their laptops so teh customer can see it.

Tomorrow is a new day so I will be on to it!

Thanks

Shaun

My business profile is not typical, so this may be irrelevant.

Mainly one job a day (all day), sometimes two. If I were to have three jobs in one day, they would be low ticket value, say upto about £80, and I would call it a day at that, even if only 12.00 noon.

All work and no play makes Ken a bit dull ::)

Safe and happy cleaning :)
Ken

PS Late start today. Off now to protect some new carpet. I'm happy with that 8)

not how long you take but how much you make, on my own that sounds about how long it would take me, with my mate helping i could half that. either way i'd of charged around £135 to £155 depending on furniture,
and just to make you feel super fast, i did a large living room on my own today, took me 2 hours, but that included bacon and egg butties several cups of coffee and several roll ups from the owner, had nothing else on so made a morning of it.

Not slow at all John.
Took me 10 hours with a large portable last night to do 260sq metres.
It was in a large bookstore with a Starbucks in it though so you can imagine the state of the carpet.
Like they say it's not how much you do so much as how much you charge per metre.
Back tonight to hopefully finish.
