Ever taken your kids to work with you?
« on: October 13, 2008, 08:38:03 pm »
Half term holidays about to begin soon. Used to fill me with dread when I was a single dad, but now remarried the Mrs can put up wiv em.
No only joking , {just in case she reads this over my shoulder} but seriously have you ever taken yours out for a days work? I give em £1.00 per house for wiping down the sills. I would have loved this when I was a kid, I had to go out delivering kosher chickens with my grandad in Ilford for 6 hours a day for no money!!!, but I  was happy with the experience, but not todays youth {12 & 14 year olds} after 2 or 3 houses there bored, the girls not so bad but my boy is a nightmare, he just sits in the van playing around with the equipment, and playing the radio too loudly.
What is wrong with the youths of today!!

they are given everything on a plate. Make them work for it, by cleaning the dishes, the house etc just like we had to when we were young.

I think some parents let their children get away wit so much just for an easy quiet life.

Not got kids myself, but if i did they would be carlsberg kids! I was thinking of getting a dog thou, since i live in rented accom i cant have one, but if it came with me.. then who would know :P

at 13 my old man gave me a list of addresses to do on a saturday and a 3m double wooden ladder (probably illegal now in fact probably illegal then) and then made me pay my mum dig money. my boys an idle little bugger hes 13 now and when i have taken him out he gets all the old dears feeling sorry for him giving him sandwiches and treats and any tips i was getting he gets them. and after an hour hes bored and sits in van, my daughters only ten and sometimes comes collecting and she loves it she sits in van ticking whos paid and she watches windows while i am knocking and tells me who looked out the window and then hid ::) shes desperate to work. anyway i blame mums its all there fault

I have my 2 girls work for us in the summer grass cutting, they get £30 a day each. They work harder than the lads I employed in the past.

I've taken all 3 of my daughters w/ me from time to time. In fact my oldest and her husband used to help me quite often. The younger 2 aren't keen to be wcers but at least they know enough to have something to fall back on. And I always love spending time w/ my girls! ;)

I dont know if you are aware it is illegal for under 16 (may even be 18) to operate grass cutting equipment. I know this because I had a very small young looking 20 year old working doing just this when I owned a grounds maintenance company.
I was contacted by the Local authority enforcement team to check on the lads age.

Are you Jewish? Most of my customers are Jewish ( I do Pinner and Northwood ) and I always say to them there is no such thing as a Jewish window cleaner. Strictly for goy boys like me.

My two sons used to like coming out to help me but as they got older the novelty wore off. The youngest still does sometimes when he wants some money.

I've no kids old enough to work yet, but my 14 year old brother came out working with me over the school hols a few times.
He loved it,.. and I gotta say he's pretty good at wfp. I started him on downstairs only and worked him up to 1st floor. He even went out and bought his own pole and backpack out of his earnings!

My mums family are Jewish, my dads a goy. So in Jewish eyes i am considered Jewish, and wear the Star for her, but I personally dont follow any religion.
If you have lots of Jewish customers I think you must be doing well from them, as contrary to the stereotypical jokes about them they are infact generous and not tight people in my experience.

I have to agree with you 110% on that, but I have noted that there houses all seem to spotless which is refreshing.

I used to take my kids occasionally when they were younger and they enjoyed it for a little while then got bored.

My youngest son got on well with all the old dears and i would often find him sitting down with them watching tv with a cup of tea and biscuit, cakes, sweets.

Now there older none of them are interested my youngest who is 17 came out with me for an afternoon about a month ago.
When he came home he went canvassing and got himself some work, only bungalows and a couple of shops.
Now he straps my bucket on his motorbike knicks my scrim and other bits and does some work of his own.

I don't know about Goy not being insulting - but its what they call us.

I actively seek Jewish customers as I find them to be good loyal and reliable customers and they pass you on to all their friends. They are fussy mind you, You have to do it properly, but I have a lot of respect for them.

Actually, I find the educated Asians are very similar which is one in the eye for me because I always said I would not work for Asians after a few bad experiences when I was a taxi driver.
