do they just stop the tube sliding down or clamp the carbon,of which how without crushing it?
Thanks

There is a keyhole slit through the top of the carbon fibre, the clamp closes it, clamping down on the other section. Brilliantly simple, now and then the clamp it a drop of WD40 or silicon spray, and they operate smooth as silk. Easy to undo, adjust, and clamp.

Is a key hole slit when the end of the pole has a cut down it each side and when the clamp is closed it pushes together?
Does this not weaken the carbon at the end of the pole? Or make it split.
Sorry for all the Q. just trying to get a idea of how it works and if i could do this.

no a single strip, its an upside down keyhole shape, a circle to a strip. And no it doesn weaken it because the SL-X is wrapped with more carbon at these points. Am I right Alex?

The ends of the pole are reinforced to cope with the clamping mechanism.  However, no real strain is put on this area during use as the major point of strain is at the base of the internal section where it pushes against the section it is inside. The area that the clamp is clamping on the smaller section is simply holding the sections at the right elevation.

Yes they are, and very very well. I think Alex said they are bonded on, whatever that means, I just know they don't come off even under sever abuse lol.
