Last week I changed my pc and didn't relise until tonight that my old hard drive is still on my old broken down pc, on there is all my documents including invoices.

I have found a risk assesment form that I can use but I'm in need of a contract document so if anyone can post one here or email one to me I would be most gateful.
There isn't one on this forums document section.

I even have to sit here tonight and redo all my invoice templates.

go to a pc shop and buy a craddle ,or you can open up your pc and connect your other hard drive .This will give you access to your data and you will be able to get the info that you need.I dont know what windows program you are running but i would of thought that you will boot it up ok.

Not being well up on pc's I did try to load my old one to my new one, I changed the link for it to becoma a slave, booted up my pc and on boot up it reconised the new drive but then the pc locked out
I have loads of info on there I need.
Running windows xp pro
Being dumb but whats a cradle?

Just had a look at that and it went straight over my head Lol
I'll have to find away to get my old hard drive connected, I have so much info on there for work, I'm desperate for it, I've managed to do a couple of risk assesments but the contract is what I'm stuck on.

Jeff what it does is turn your old hard drive into a mass storage device in my computer.
It should be plug and play and no need to make it a slave and the pc will not try to boot from it making any conflicts and freezing up.
Just put it in the caddy which is very simple and plug it into your usb socket.
then explore the new drive in my computer and go through the files and move the ones you want to keep to a safe folder on your new hdd.
when finished formatt the old hdd and use it as a back up drive ,if your pc ever crashes all this data will not be effected.

Take the hard drive and connect it to a new PC as slave, turn on your PC, it will detect the new hard drive, it's gonna be safe after you open any infected document, so we have to think that all the files are infected, so, desinfect the hard drive with your favorite anti-virus, like any other hard drive.

I'll have to get my daughter to buy it from flebay as I don't have an account with them, thanks for your help but I still need my contract doc by friday so in the mean time I'll have to have a play around.

Gaz I did all that, and when my pc booted up it reconised the hard drive and that it was a slave but then my pc froze and locked out, so I couldn't acess any of my pc.

I haven't tested your link yet but I just tried loading the hard drive again and it comes up with the following error  NTLDR is missing

I already have 2 hard drives fitted in there at the moment and there both working my slave is a 250gb so I have to keep that one.
I just drop the 250 out and wire in my old one, I checked the link settings on the drive and thats set up correctly for a slave.

I have an idea be back soon lol

yes google erroe codes it's the easy way to find out what your pc is saying. aswell as beep codes.

the difference is that both drives have a opperating system on them but as long as it only boots from the master it should'nt be a problem. Are you sure in bios it only boots from the master in boot syquence
