I was up at Altec last week and there was a CD buying chemicals and he had one of their machines in the back.

I'm not sure if by having a CD franchise you MUST use their systems and no others.

I know with ServiceMaster there are certain "systems" that revolve around the SM products but you're not obliged to use them.  It's just that in the event of any problems they won't and can't offer you any support if you're using another supplier's products, which is fair enough.

we cleaned a house of carpets for a lady whose husband used to run a chem dry franchise and then sold to a friend after about ten years , and by both of there admissions they said the whole system was rubbish!

Its true!  -  i was gobsmacked, they said they had heard we did a good job so thought they would get a decent job done,  8)

10 years or so ago they were primarily just LM cleaning all carpets, in the US I think they still prefer this as it's more profitable because of its speed IMO the UK operation of CD is far better.

The majority still aren't really interested in the carpet cleaning side. There are a few "super" franchises now making millions from restoration work.

Floods and Fires

I think as John says, some of them don't really bother with the carpet cleaning side of the business.

I'm led to believe that part of the franchaise agreement is that they have to purchase £200 worth of these two part carpet cleaning chemicals each month from the parent company, regardless as to whether they use them or not.  This cost only equates to about 6 or 7 single uses of the system @ £30 a fill.

You need to be charging very top dollar to make any margin on those overheads.
