Looked through that parkers guide and as with any other review ive looked at there is no mention of gearbox or engine management problems. But they do seem to happen.

If your buying used, even from a forecourt always get it HPI checked.

When I was looking for a van I almost bought a Merc Vito, from a dealer, I had looked at lots in previous weeks and this one looked imaculate - too imaculate actually.

I rang HPI right there on the forecourt, it turned out to have been clocked by about 100.000 miles if I remember right and finance outstanding via daimler benz  :o and honestly you could have eaten your lunch off the engine and both inside and outside was spotless.

For about £30 its worth it.

Went to see a vito private sale today.  Liked it so did a HPI check, came back as having 5k outstanding finance on it.  Oh yes she said, I am to pay that off with the money from the sale  ???  Would she have told me this if I hadn't done the check me wonders..

Hi dave

It is a minefield buying a used vehicle and like most items if am buying used i always buy from friends or people who i know.

I nearly bought a motorbike a few years ago and when i got it hpi,d it came back owing 3 grand and thought the same as you, would they have told me that they would be paying the money off when i buy it from them :o So in the end i bought a new one :)

Did the same with my van got it from new as got things like free servicing and insurance for a year.

Good luck :)
