« on: September 07, 2008, 04:06:31 pm »
Anyone employ a canvasser?? Who works for them, if so what do you pay, wage/commission both? What hours etc?? Is it worthwhile in your experience??

For about 6 months now i keep planning to go and do a load of canvassing but dont have the time always something comes up, and also dont want to be away from home at night as well as weekend as got baby on way etc....So only root is a canvasser.....any sound advice??

I advertise in my local church magazine for next to nothing. Im the only wc that advertises there. I get loads of work through it too.
I also canvass for an hour or two sometimes when I finish my days work normally in area where I've been working.

If you dont mind door knocking and can find the time to go out and do it yourself that will be the cheapest way of gaining work. I didnt have the time and used roundbuilders, they have canvassed me all of my domestic work that i have now as i sold off the jobs that i had from the begining due to relocation. Once my round was built they were doing a few days a month for me, but they havent been out lately due to being booked up till next year. I now use them for commercial canvassing and they have gained me some fantastic appointments which has led me to getting some very well paid jobs, and due to this i have now had to put another van and person on the road, so i am really pleased with the results. On the domestic side they charge twice the amount of the job, one offs i come to an agreement with them. For the business canvassing its charged per hour and per appointment that they get for you. I also now advertise in the local magazines, they have been quite good at gaining work and they are quite cheap to have an ad in. Im thinking of having a new ad in the yellow pages as well, not cheap though.

Its gonna cost alot to provide lodgings, fuel etc.....i can canvass myself but like i say i dont wanna go down that route as its something i want to setup as a long term investment, so im after someone who is working for me so to speak.perhaps who already is canvassing for double glazing, gas and electric, etc but wants a bit on side.nobody done that??

not to be stereotyping, but will you get the right candidates through the job centre??IM trying to be PC here and not offend anyone but my impression of the people coming through job centre, isnt who i want representing my business....but i might be wrong, so dont attack me! :)
