It's well dangerous if you get red lines going up your arm. A friend of mine had that recently and was rushed into hospital there and then. I have to go for blood tests every 4 weeks to make sure my white blood cells stay normal otherwise it will attack my immune system.

I`ll bet that`s from a plant type bush,a guy working for me a few years back had exactly the same thing as yiour describing. It`s a red bush with loads and loads or thorns in it,there tiny so tiny you can hardly see them he lent over it in front of a window. The rash and blisters didn`t appear straight away but his whole leg blistered up and actually left some scaring.

I've been getting these bites about 3 times a year for the last 3 years.

I know now to get antibiotics as quick as possible.

sometimes I get 3 or 5 together, which can get really uncomfortable.

i'm alwaysnear grass/in a garden when I get bit. last week I actually caught the little buggers at it.

for me, it's a small black fly about 3mm long, with a mosquito like head but only a short black body.

tried researching on google, sounds like a blandford fly but that only lives near running water. it has been found in the midlands though.

anyone have any ideas what it could be?

My Mrs has been bitten by something too. They came up in large red lumps about 3/4 of an inch across.
She was gardening at the time, very itchy but no red lines.
I was bitten to death by mosquitoes in Indonesia, she doesn't react to them, I came back with at least 20 scabs from scratching the tops off.

Talking of being careful, I flicked a dead bee off a window sill once with my fingers whilst I was trad cleaning and although the bee was dead I still got the full sting in my finger. It stings like mad. Don't ever use your fingers to touch a dead bee, they can still leave their sting as I found out the hard way ;)

it just goes to show how hazardous are job is not just from trips or falls but by spiders or what ever insects are lurking about ready to bite or sting us  ;D

What about the coastal sea gulls, the pesky big critters swoop and peck your head if you get to close to the roofs. I have to wear a hard hat on 6 of my cleans in the mateing season. ;D (no wise cracks simon) ;D

Why do you have to wear a hard-hat when you're mating?
