TERMS AND CONDITIONS
« on: February 16, 2005, 01:16:34 pm »
I am intending to start a domestic cleaning business and
am having difficulty in establishing both 'terms and conditions' for my prospective clients and 'terms of employment' for prospectives employees; I expect that employees will be self-employed.

Can anyone offer examples or advice - plain english preferred.

PS. I am a new member so thanks for the advice so far.

Regards

Hi Jim!

Are your cleaners going to be working regular hours....eg same Client, same hours, same day each week. I only ask as I weas going to do the same myself when I first started my Dom cleaning business, and after speaking to an accountant I was told that if this was the case they would be my employees, it would be illegal to class them as self-employed. I would then have to supply employers liability insurance alongside my public liability, i would also have to sort out the PAYE and NI conts. Apparently the Inland Revenue are looking into clamping down big time on business like ours who act as Agencies and introduce cleaners to Clients on a self employed basis. Typical IR, eh, always spoiling our fun! Anyway I decided it wasn't worth the risk, and I could see no other way of operating other than being the employer and my cleaners employees, all above board etc.

Just wondered that's all  ;)
anyone with facebook can add me at this link ...  jan 'minkeedj' kindon  .... if you can be bothered lol

Do some more research Jim. Why do you want self employed cleaners?? Self employed are going to expect at least £10 an hour. I think what you are proposing is illegal in the eyes of the taxman, they either work for you or they don't!!
This subject has been covered before if you want to search it andfind out what was said then.

Best of luck in your new venture.

Hi Jan, Thanks for your comments.

The regular hours and same day each week for the same clients is not something I can answer at present. However, I had thought that a 'pool' of cleaners might be the way forward.

Theoretically a given cleaner would not be associated with any given client, though in practise this could occur.

My initial plan is to work as a husband & wife team and when(if!) the business grows beyond our capacity we would then employ additional people.

The points you raise will need careful  consideration on how we address employed/self-employed issues in the future.

I will concentrate on the immediate term for now and will return to employment issues at a later date.

Thanks again for your comments.

hi there,

you need to make sure that you are pricing your jobs at an appropriate level, because you will in the future have to staff the jobs out, whether that be by employed or self employed. and as many people have said on here in the past  they have started a business and then in the future they have a pool of low value jobs, as well as the better paid work.

just an opinion
