Ive considered this my self I hear its very affective , my bro in law is web master for a global company and says they have used it to boost traffic for a small period and it was excellent and as soon as the adword campaign ended the traffic dropped off again

I have been using it to attract commercial customers and it does ok. You wont get millions of hits as there are not millions of people looking for a window cleaner but it provides a steady trickle. Be careful how you word your ad and its best to set it up so its shown only in your local area.

a good place to start with internet advertising. it can be quite expensive in comparison but you can easily recoup your outlay each month. we used to use it and would spend about £200 per month but like i say easily reouped each month. best bet is to use it while you are getting your site optimised to appear in the free listings, which can take quite a while to acheive.

Thanks for the replies, i was wondering how others got on, i personally didnt feel it would be great because i never look on that side, but if so many people pay out so much on it, it must work,....£200 is alot though, ive stuck about £20 on just to test, and if i feel it works then i will bang it up a bit, but am hoping to get in free listings soon too, so might not need it forever!

Ive often wondered about adwords, whats stopping you competitors repeatedly clicking your advert and cost you a fortune.

sad innit! you can prepay tho, and google divides it by 30 and spends that much each day, when its up, your ad goes off till the next day etc

Because google tracks your IP so repeated clicks don't count. So by repeated clicking your just wasting your own time  ;)

£200! I spend £30 a month max and get great results - Must be a lot of bidding on those keywords!

You will get lots of impressions and a few clicks thats the way it works. Be patient  ;)

For the one or two man band thats happy getting business through referrals and doesnt want to build an empire then stay well clear.

Im a member of a well respected business forum and most of the threads on there are pretty negative about the way adwords works, and the ROI, and if not controlled properly can cost you a fortune.

Personally i would just not comtemplate using such a method to win more business unless I had silly money to burn.

Do it the old fashioned way looking nice and smart "knock on doors"

I think it all depends on how you use it. If your not careful and you set the peramaters  incorrectly or set too high a CPC your in for trouble. Personally I have used it to great effect and I continue to do so. If you want large commercial customers, word of mouth from residential customers or even knocking on commercial doors will get you nowhere except sore feet and fed up. There are better ways to reach your potential clients and Google is one of them.

The trouble with people is they don't read the instructions and lets be honest Google is there to make money. So combine the two and you get not a lot for your money. However for us it has been effective and still is  ;D
