Hi All,

if any of you fix gutters what would you charge for this.

taking down old gutters clamps, correctly putting them back up and setting gutters back up.

went to look at the job yesterday it is one side of house easy access about 4/5 mtrs about 7 clamps/brackets on newish build the gutters have not been put up right as they slope up in middle so water goes over sides and down wall.

Your thoughts on price

I wouldn't touch it.

Unless you've prepared them to accept the possibility of replacement connecting brackets, as putting back old ones often leak, and sealer only lasts a couple of years, and matching pvc gutter fittings can drive you mad as often they are job lots from China

I am with PJ on this one .  I tried this a while back ant it was a nightmare !!!  I lost a full days work , and still couldnt complete the job !   Leave it to the pros Ian

I am not saying i DO NOT KNOW HOW TO DO THIS. I am asking what some of you would charge to do this job.

I have already quoted I was intersted to know what others would charge thats all.

IMO its is more than an hour or twos work, to price it accordingly and be able to do a respectable job guaranteed is leaving yourself wide-open to losing out. Just a trip to B+Q is gonna take half that time allowed if you forget soemthing.

Replacing gutters isnt always as easy as some might think, (excuse the pun, but theyre not always that straightforward) particularly if someone is paying you to do it, alright on your own place perhaps, not if someone is expecting something for their money.

Id allow a day.

The way half you lot are talking, anyone would think that this was rocket science. Fitting new gutters is easy. If you charged £100 that would be good money as that wouldn't take long to do. Ian I used to work in the general builders trade and did this type of jobs week in week out. Ignore the doom and gloomers. Just dont rush the job, use a string line to set the angle of the clamps. Regarding the the gutter joints, Use two people for the job and just take down the guttering in complete sections avoiding the need to dismantle the sections. On the bits you do have to take apart just use a bit of silicone on the joint as you put it back together. We used this method many times and never got a call back.

When I tried to replace some guttering , I removed part of the guttering ( snapping a couple of clips to boot ) I could not find the exact size guttering anywhere !!! I must have visited 7 plumbers merchants

i do quite a few gutter repacements for customers and what i would do is, replace all the fascia brkts, union and running outlet, if there is any on that side, with new and keep the origanal guttering, if it was still in good nick. the parts  would only cost about £15-£20 to replace, and would charge £100 incl parts.

Ooooooooooh ive done hundreds of gutter replacement jobs as a carpenter

you will have to now look at the H&S aspect of doing off ladder or scaffolding, i know a local company to me who insist on scaffolding

you could of course hire a tower and do it off that, just move it along as you go

I am not desperate at all, I just like to know what others would charge, it really is that simple, I have changed many gutters and fixed them, this is a service I have offered for a long time. Again I will say as some do not seem to understand that I was interested to know what others would charge for it as I think we are too cheap and I have spotted a large area where I know full well all the gutters have been installed incorrectly.
So Desperate no, business minded yes
