hi all

i have gotten most of my work from sending out faxes.

recently i sent out some and the next week i got a letter from the "fax preference service" they told me i was breaking the law by sending out these faxes and someone had complained.

apparently i need to buy a list first for £3,000

the fine for not buying it and sending anyway is £5,000 grand!! and now i have to wait round to see if they prosecute me. this appears legit as i phoned up the DTI to check.

just thought id tell you in case you get screwed too.

I think the same applies if you telecanvass and ring somebody who has registered with the tps. 

I'm not sure that buying alist for £3K is a good idea - the list could be out of date overnight!!

There are companies that provide a checking service (one at a time or a whole list of numbers) against the FPS and the TPS.  Obviously there is a fee per number checked but you would have to check a LOT of numbers before you spent even a fraction of £3K.

I have the details of one of the companies somewhere but can't find it at the moment - something like marketingfile.com (a search on google will find them).

Dont know about any one else but im sick of getting faxes that are selling things. I have sent the faxes back to the number at the bottom if you want to be removed from the mailing list lots of times but they just keep coming. There was even one that came specifically to remove you from a mailing list, all you had to do was fax it back to a number, very small print states that it costs £1.50 to do it, brilliant eh?

Interesting post Josephus as you are the first person I have heard off who has been threatened with prosecution.

If you follow the Link as suggested you will find that you can use number look up at reasonable price.

It was Free to start with.

Was it Fax prefrence service or a company trying to sell you the list for 3K
