Hi Guys

Roger, I get 20 enquiries in a day or two  and have been reading webpronews for years  ;)

Cheers

Doug

20 inquiries a day thats unbelievable well done, have your websites been live very long?
My stats are very reasonable as my site only went live 7 month ago.

Also how many of you have forgotton about the other 100s of top search engines have you forgot about Eg: Lycos, altavista, msn, aol etc... they all still have a good market share...even though these engines crawl google for listings its still a good idea to submit to them.

The webpronews bit was for the newbies not the old hats.

Roger

Hi Guys

If you are linked to other sites which are searched , then you will altomatically be added to the crawling list for different search engines and have no need to submit.

A lot of 'experts' believe it is best to let the search engines find you in this way.

I am no.2 for carpet cleaning on Yahoo but about 30 on MSN although my work comes from more specific searches .

Some of my URLs are now several years old, like most things in life if you put in the work you will be rewarded.

I have learnt lots from other internet CC's but most of all have tried to create proper sites which relate to everyday CC, leather etc.

Cheers

Doug

It all sounds a good set up and if its working for you it might give us all something to aim at.

As i am  new to the net am sure its the way forward.

Doug

Do the customers who phone for a quote or e mail you know you are the same guy?

If so how do you get around it. cheers clinton

Doug,

Sorry mate but your not an expert on (Search Engine Optimisation) or web development in part your right about about being linked to other sites this is very important, but when your just starting off it is imperative you submit to the other engines such as msn, aol, lycos etc..

Try to create proper sites, what are proper sites in your opinion Doug?

Take tesco for example do they have 1000's of urls for every individual product they sell for eg: www.grannysmithattesco.com, I think not, they have good web developers that use the likes of google shopping to gain exposure, and yes they have lots of money but you still dont need lots of urls to gain high placement on the engines, all you have to do is change the html for the Home page and follow the specific set of ranking rules for that engine, about 60% of engines have different rules. More time yes but will save a bucket load of money in the long run.

Im an ex web developer with 15 years experience and keep in touch with the ever changing rules of (SEO) for most search engines.

I have one website targeting Window & Carpet Cleaning and is on the first page of nearly all engines for my specific keyword search's.

Regards

Roger

constructive critisism; Your large text on your sites make them look a bit ameture. smaller font would look far batter!

I have another bit of advice, How many of you actually have tested your website in different browsers, there are 64 different types of browsers to be exact although Firefox & IE have the biggest following there are still millions of people world wide using different types.

If for example someone looks at your website and they are using the Safari operating system for imacs and your website looks like a load of scattered words and pictures then you will lose that customer for ever.

You can test your website design and different screen resolutions for consistency if you goto www.browsershots.org/ and type your website address in the submit box, it can take upto 30 minutes for the results to come back and you will get thumbnail snapshots that you can maximise and see what your website looks like.

I normally submit my site then go and have a cup of tea some results will be back but not all.

This is an excellent resource for webmasters and developers.

Hi Guys

Roger, not sure where you got the idea I am some sort of SEO expert, I have never claimed to be !

What I am is an enthusiastic amatuer who has managed to get top / first page positions for leather cleaning, carpet cleaners, carpet cleaning ( sometimes), dry carpet cleaners, sofa cleaning, green carpet cleaning , eco friendly carpet cleaning etc.

I also have many top positions for my key words, like carpet cleaning essex etc.

I also have CC sites covering most of the country, some of which are 'rented' by other CC's, spoke to one yesterday who has had about 1500 worth of work in the last two months.

I dont get 20 enquiriesevery  day, I did say in a day or two but yesterday for example had 8 of which I converted 3.

As for the other questions don't offer patio cleaning but could get top rankings if I wanted to, leather cleaning already answered, no very few customers ring more than once, they can work out it's me again, the point is to create an omnipitent presence.

Off to work,

Cheers

Doug if your converting 8 inquiries every two days into 3 jobs thats 42 jobs per month from your websites thats astonishing mate you seem to have the knack for targeting the exact audience for your line of work this is something that most seasoned professional web developers have trouble doing, your in the wrong business and you should offer your Webmaster services to CIU members and make a fortune out of it. ::)

Hi Guys

I have been in the CC industry for almost 30 years, and therefore have a feel for the types of customer I wish to attract. A webdesigner will only really know the  web design industry.

I remember a West End advertising agency coming to the firm I worked for in the 70's, we made roofing products, papers, other non wovens etc.

My boss, a boffin briefed them, off they went and came back with  a load of rubbish, my boss's info had been far to technical and they had not grasped it at all.

As I mentioned a number of CC's are renting my sites with varying success, but not yet ready to give up CC ;)

Cheers

A lot of web designers do not know a great deal about SEO in this area, we get similar stats to Doug but use only two sites.

I think a few on here were lucky to catch Mark on the way up.

Some got a very good site and seo done for peanuts. When the demand outstripped supply I think he started putting his prices up.

Wouldn't be suprised if he's doing work for bigger companies that throw thousands at him.

Hi Guys

Obviously the one day snap shot I gave relates to my local sites of which one receives the vast majority of hits.

Across the generic sites the number of visitors varies with www.leatherclean.co.uk being first and www.sofacleaning.co.uk second.
