You basically need risk assessments, method statements, a health and safety policy, a way of checking and recording that you check your tools and a couple of other things - Once you send these to Safe Contractor, they will then tell you what you need to do to make these documents legal and complete (audit process) . However before you worry what you don't have they will help you with or even supply examples at no extra cost so you learn what to do.
Personally I found the whole experience very useful. Writing a risk assessment or method statement is like now riding a bike and the badge has brought me loads of work from commercial clients. The whole process took a couple of months for me, could have been quicker but I am pretty busy most of the time.
I will be continuing my membership especially as the health and safety laws get stricter and stricter. You also can get advise at any time you need once you are a member.
I hope that helps
