I have had my metal hose reels with plastic spindles and metal elbow connectors in daily service 8 hours each reel a day for over 2 years with no trouble at all.

 I have had them dragged down the road, falling out of the van , staff abuse and i can say they are bullet proof.

How can the brass fitting wreck a plastic spindle? Once it's screwed on it doesn't go anywhere.

Beleive me the water rots the thread on the spindle over a short time,i had to take my brass connecter off of the hosereel a couple of times and on doing so i had no thread left on the spindle,it happened to 2 spindles in a row.

yes its a plastic spindle... i think i will buy an elbow or two.

is it a wintecs reel
if so the supplied fitting is crap
good brass elbow will stop it leaking

i got the reel and hose from pure freedom....

  I have my reel bolted down with one of them hoselok hose guides to put the hose through, you can then just walk off pulling the hose with no snags.

  Although I am getting a new van this week and will not be bolting the hose to the floor, I will be putting it on bit of board to keep it stable, that way I can take it out of the van if needed.

I have thought of srewing a guide to the inside of the back door or on the floor just inside to allow for a direction change of the hose - they don't seem to sell them in B&Q these days. Seen a few on customers properties though. I even tried incorperating the ladder roller on my roof rack in some way.

i have of only seen them hose guides that are intended to screw to a corner of a wall, does anyone else use roller guides for hose?

I've thought of those hose guides too, but now way gonna screw one to the bumper
Will have do design some sort of "flip out/drop down" so when the back doors are opened you can have some sort of hinged bracket so the hose guide drops down to bumper level for use, once finished you can just flip it back into the van.
