How much did you pay for the site? and did you not ask for optimisation when first building the site?

No I didn't unfortunately I was too busy getting text sorted out, thinking about wording etc. He said it would take up to a year for it to start showing on the first page when searching, by people viewing it it ranks higher. I don't want to wait a year I want it to get us work not just re a reference thing to people who manage to see the address advertised.

Do you know what package it is in?
Have you got access to any of the features.

Saying it will take a year is a cop-out, using 1&1 I made my own websites and they ranked at the top of Google within a month.

You should be able to do it yourself, there are some people on here that will do it for you for a few hundred quid, but it is money for old rope.

Gary, a brand new website needs a quite a few months of hard work and both onsite and offsite optimisation to start bringing paying visitors/clients.If your website is not within the top 10 you are not likely to get any work. People rarely continue searching on page 2.

If someone tells you he will make you a top 10 website in google within a month - run away - he either doesn't know anything about SEO or is after some easy money. Best bet is to ask where his website ranks for SEO or Search Engine Optimisation in google ;-)

Agree with some points Nick, but it isn't "hard" work.

What I said was I did my own using a 1&1 package and got them to first page in Google within a month and number 1 spot shortly after.

I have had an online business and spent over £10k on websites (over 6k on one and over 4k on another) first site was in Shop Factory and 2nd site was in Actinic. We got shafted by both companies and over the years I learnt to use the packages myself and rebuilt the Actinic which took months!!
Shortly after I was happy with it someone offered us £20k for it, needless to say it was sold. ( after a trip to Southampton also extracted a couple of thousand out of the company that designed the Actinic site, that was fun   ;)).

I am weary of ALL web designers, they think they own the site which you have paid for, in my experience they are  an evasive bunch and make things complicated and tie you in. One cheeky git even wanted a percentage of our internet company to keep it updated.

I had a really nice website years ago that was created in Dreamweaver but just playing around one day I started using 1&1, it is idiot proof, easy and cheap!!

I am by no means an internet expert ( but I do know more than some who claim they are!!!) and also did not say I could get this site to first page Google. I enjoy tinkering around on the internet and have helped a few people with their sites and have never even thought about charging.

My advice to anyone who wants a website would be use 1&1 and do it yourself. If you want help then email me and I will help you out for free. If it works out within a couple of months all well and good, if it fails it has cost you about £10.00.

You can always try - if you make it to the top then you have yourself a nice little deal  ;)
It takes a lot of time though  :(

Hi Gary - Did try but NO CODES!! You were right he said I'd mess it up and went all technical on me. Said we have to pay £100 after the year is up for the next years hosting & maintainence/amendments! My husband said - I Don't Think So!!!

Oh loved your discussions with Julie!!
