I don't have a problem with my shoulder. I have a problem with my wrists. They sometimes get really painful. However I've found that wrist braces are really helpful. Not the type with metal in them as they are too stiff. I use the ones with a thumb hole, that slide over your hand and then you bind a strap round the wrist. They provide enough support without restricting your wrist too much. I find that I only have to wear them for a couple of days and the pain subsides considerably.

I also get pain in the muscles of my forearms. That I've not found anything yet to help with so I just put up with it.

It's still miles better than the problems I was getting from going up and down ladders a hundred times a day.

I have had the same thing and yesterday i saw a chiropractor,i have seen oseopaths acupunturists and they didn`t work but the chiropractor has.Initially i had golfers elbow which started on the left and then switched to the right,i then had a dull pain in my shoulder that went down the back of the tricep. It`s not a pain that you can put your finger on but the main reason is tight muscles and this is from WFP,i have had 1 session and it has done better than countless sessions with the others above, over the course of treatment he is going to try and relax all the muscles in my arms and shoulders and it will hopefully do the trick for the longterm, another good thing to take before and during treatment is RUTA GRAV it is a homeopathic medicine that strengthens the tendons and bones in the body.I also use a VULCAN golfers elbow strap this really works wonders and it goes round the top of the forearm on the arm that`s giving you greif, only use this strap when your poleing and take it off between jobs.hope this helps.

Thanks for your advice..off to chemist tommorrow.....

is it only me with a shoulder lump... now am worried

i take glucosamine/chondroitin 500/400 mg , works a treat, arthiristis sufferers also take them , take 9 mths to fully get in your system though . they make tendons/ joints more flexible.

Before you even thank about, The answer is no I don't...

I pay £70 and get 2 and a half hours of proper massage, working the muscle and tendons and not that muscle either.

I have she her twice now every two week and now im going to she her 4 more times once a week then keep this up once a mth their after...

Reading these post i been rolling around laughting, sounds more like doctors clinic ,but the worse bit is i hurt as much as the rest of you! right shoulder and right elbow and right wrist, but i find stretching like a warm up in the mornings does help. I think a big part of these pains are down to working style, i should change arms with the pole more as i use the same arm style all day.

your lucky only been using wfp a year and i have sore stiff neck at least once a week constant sore shoulder ,sore elbow and aching wrist sore eyes most days as well after its been sunny the only thing gets it easy now is my legs and knees and im only 30 years old still would not go back traditional though  ::)
Take ruta grav, get it over the counter at the chemists it helps strenghthen up tendons muscles etc.Take 3 30mg tablets at intervals during the day, like i say working WFP from day to day tightens up all the upper body muscles you don`t realise how tense you are i find it easier when i have it in my head to relax,a good massage from a chiropractor does wonders mate.

cheers m8 will give them a go, youd think my wife would have sorted me out with something shes a nurse i musnt complain enough to her

The worst thing you can do to make your elbow shoulder and wrist hurt is to if your right handed have your left arm with palm down on top of the pole, you can see for yourself hold out your left arm as if you were working with palm down as if it was on top of the pole, now twist your hand with palm now facing up if you look at your forearm now it`s more natural for your bone structure. All the advisers i`ve seen have all said the same thing that working this way with palm down is not going to do you any good,it dosen`t allow your arm to twist properly when in a pulling back motion therefore it will put more strain on the tendons and joints.

Gaz,  the shoulder has the most complicated joints in the body I have cuff rotation injury and RSI. Go and get some pro help from an Oestepath or Chiro ASAP or a sports injury therapist, as well as all the other tips.

Your shoulder tip has probably permanately seperated from your shoulder joint- its ok its a fairly normal thing to happen with age as the joints dry out but get a second opinion.
Get a lightweight modular pole.

hi
i used to have a dodgy shoulder and lower back pain, mainly from lifting hose reel in and out of van, and holding pole at awkward angles , over conservs. ect . a mate of mine advised me to start weight training , been doing 2 sessions a week , for nearly a year now, has really helped as ive stenghthened muscle groups , and am more flexible, i now have no back pain at all , my shoulders do not hurt , they used to click which was a sign of weak ligaments, may not work for all , but did the trick for me  ;D, also by doing full body workouts , i am less likely to injure myself at work.

weight training is one of the best ways of sorting these sort of problems
i dont have any problems with shoulders but i do have a sharp pain  in elbows
missus reckons its tennis elbow
only other prob is back
better now i aint lifting barrels
fascia work stillplays it up tho

Try getting a product called a power ball 5 mins a day and it helps out RSI Injuries as it is a non impact form of excercise
It works and it is started to be referred by doctors and Physios
try It as they are about £20 on ebay
makes a bit of noise though but seem to work

I used to have a really bad back. Somedays i couldn't hardly get out of bed, although after a few minutes it would get better. The mad thing is that "since" i've started to use my backpack on a dily basis, the pain has totally gone. Been great for over 2 years now. I guess the weight of the water has pulled my back to an upright postition and corrected whatever was causing the problem.

Excercise is the "magic bullet" that cures back problems and the backpack also goes someways to getting you to excercise properly. I used to have a prolapsed spine until I used my pac daily, its just everything else that is now falling apart.  ;D

i do fitness4x4 training which is ideal for wfp the founder is a man called dragon radovic who is 60 years old and has never been beaten in a test of strengh and endurance which involves holding 20kg in each hand and curling to shoulder then pressing above head alternating from left hand to right hand, his son rajko was the athlete who starred in the tv show last man standing and who recently managed 600 reps without stopping ,strong men will manage at most about 150 reps i went to montenegro with them to a fitness camp they are setting up and there managed my personal best of 400 reps.
give it a try it is brilliant for our job and when you get used to using 20kg in each hand you will never moan over weight of a pole again no matter which one you use.
better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove any doubt
