My business name.
« on: February 09, 2005, 08:43:36 pm »
I have traded for the last 4 years under the name of Squeaky Clean Windows, i have spent at least 3 of those years in the yellow pages and advertised in other local magazines and everything has been ticking along fine.

Suddenly there is a company called Squeaky Clean 4U thats not far from me sprung up, some of my customers have been leafleted by him and i am (to put it nicely) a bit upset!! am i wrong to be thinking he's out of order to be using a name so close to mine? it makes me wonder where he got the name from!! your comments will be greatfully recieved.

difficult one. If it was me (us)...I'd try and get in touch and discuss it...I'm sure a solution can be worked out amicably.

Hi Paul, its not the 'healthy Competition' that bothers me,i'm always up for that, but its the gall of it using a name so close to mine.

again...enter into a discussion....at the end of the day, there's only so many names we can call ourselves that describe what we do. Try the diplomatic route first. I had this on a biker's forum once...only to discover that I'd been called 'El Bandido' 3 years longer than the complainent anyway. Your fist step has to be to contact him...use a private message. That's my 2 pence worth anyway.

Yeah ill be honest i wanted a quick easy name and when i went to get the url name Squeakyclean.com it was already taken by a USA company which peed me off, so i then went for SqueakyClean4u.com. The 4u part comes from http://www.4u-servers.co.uk from my LAN cafe days (gaming) If i had know then there was a Squeaky Clean in the area i was i would have picked another name due to the damage it can cause to both parties, but its too late now.

Hope that helps.

Personally I think it a little unfair and to be a bit blunt with out intending an insult to Justin, a maybe a bit 'couldn't careless as I'm ok' considrering there's another similar name already. But Justin's printed his leaflets and is set up with that name.

There are thousands of names to choose from.

Having said that I'd try and make it work for mutual benifit.

Although it's a little different we had a similar problem. We're called Dirty Windows and there's a general purpose cleaning company called Dirty Cleaning. After they started I phoned them, as someone though we were them, and now we pass on business to them and them to us.

It works quite well.

hi rosskesava,
I think that the 'working together' thing is only really applicable to the two different cleaning types -  windows and general, I can quite see how that could work. In this case I am afraid that it won't.
I could not consider passing work on when to set my self up I had to trawl the streets leafleting with my 3 young daughters to gain the customers and made completely sure that i had not taken another companies name or was not treading on another mans toes.  Re one of Justins previous posts obviously not enough research was carried out, the correct research would have shown him that there was a well established company squeaky clean windows not more than a few miles away.

Duke,
I have sent a Pm reguarding this but no responese yet. Just want to put his mind to rest that i am not out to pinch/nick his customers, thats not my style he has nothing to worry about.

Its a shame about the names sounding the same but nothing can be done there. If i had seen one of these so called Local Adverts in the paper he has carried out i would not have picked that name in the first place. Also on Simons website it states he has been cleaning for 2yrs not 4 as stated above.

Anyway its best we just get on with it, there is alot more flyers going out very soon with door knocking as well, but like i say i dont nick work and if a good job is getting done you know as well as me customers will not change.

Justin

Ps Sorry the name stays it anit happening.

How about having a squeaky conglomerate?
Get in touch with a squeak near you
Or something similar.
It could go big time, think about it! We have companys that have joined together and called themselves the smart cleaning group (don't worry Andy).

They squeak him here, they squeak him there.......
