I cleaned a whole load of house martin poo off a window today. The pure water took it off easily, of course. The problem is the yellow stains left on the frames.

I had a go at the staining with a washing up sponge, avoiding the green abrasive side, just using the yellow spongey bit. It didn't seem to make much difference.

Are there any chemical cleaners on the market that will get rid of the stains?

I've just bought some Thompsons upvc restorer. People rave on a bout that, makes the upvc white again. I haven't used it yet, didn't have time to do my house yet.

You can always give it a try.

Smells like T-cut, and has the same consistency, I wonder if it does the same thing, like taking a very fine layer off it.

Matt, TFR is non-abrasive and doesn't remove a layer. It's a super detergent designed for removing traffic film.

I've just been on to Technical Services at Thompsons and they assure me that it will do the trick. The guy I spoke to also said that it was non-abrasive and wouldn't scratch or affect the upvc in any way. I'll buy some at the weekend and report back.

The reason I said that Wally was Ive got a tub of what I think is TFR in the van and it smells too like T-Cut.

Thompson's upvc restorer doesn't shift bird poo stains. Twenty minutes of following the instructions and pouring lots of sweat into it as well (the weather was well muggy) have conclusively proven that.

It's great for removing the black rain run stains and other superficial staining. The frames came up brilliant white where they had been a bit grey, but these "biological" stains were still there and weren't even faded a little.

So the question is: What will remove them?

Yes, Matt. I can only guess that T-cut and tfr share some of the same chemical components, but T-cut has a hyper fine abrasive which standard tfr doesn't have. As I said, that's only a guess. The chemistry of these things is WELL beyond me.

Have you tried some 000 steel wool? That should do it if all else fails.

is that is whats all over the windows (absolutely all over) in one of my areas, there is tiny little yellow crap all over and i mean all over and its giving me some right trouble... is it house martins?

House martins and it's big lumps of the stuff, and a nest you couldn't miss right above.
Spiders usually give those small brown/yellow marks that are a right pain to remove, look directly above the mess and you'll usually see the nest, sometimes well hidden away.

I don't have any pictures. They often seem to be shaped like exclamation marks and are a brown/yellow. Length seems to be betwen 1 and 5 centimeters. The shape suggets to me that they are squirted onto the glass.

The water doesn't seem to even soften them. The only way to shift them (that I've found) is with a Tesco microfibre and a bit of elbow grease.

Is that what you are referring to?

It's not spiders, I'm almost 100% certain they are bees muck. Spiders are tiny little black dots, definitely not yellow and elliptical.

I've been told before it's bees causing the problems, but how many Bees have you seen on windows?.... me none! unless they do it late at night

Spiders mess i presume is the after effects of eating flies
Spiders mess is not black, it's a brown/yellow stain.
Obvious if it's spiders as directly above the stains will be the nest.
