No work.
« on: August 05, 2008, 09:00:28 pm »
Hello
I am new to the forum and have been reading for a while. I have been impressed with the help some of you guys give each other.

I have recently left my job and finished college and I am very interested in gettin into window cleaning. Yes, not another one i here you say.

Im very motivated and im very eager to get going ive done abit before with a friend and he did say he'd give us some more work but is quiet unreliable. Hopefully he is gong to let me go on some rounds with him again this week for some practice.

My problem is ever since Ive started to look into w/c ive seen quiet a few window cleaners round my area well alot actually. I want to put leaflets about and start canvassing that isn't a problem. Im just now wondering if there is actaully going to be anybody who needs a w/c left am i just wasting my time with all this?

Any comments are appreciated.
Thanks, Ant
:)

Your profile doesn't say where you are so I can't comment on that area specifically. Generally, yes there is work out there. With all the economic problems at the moment and for time to come, things will change. The argument is like " how long is a piece of string?".  Do you need to earn all your income from wc straight away? Can you do other work or have other income whilst you establish a round? Are there lots of other cleaners in the area? How far will you travel? One thing I'd say is don't jump in spending loads of money before you know whether you a) like the job and b) have an opening. Same for any business really.

Whatever you do, dont price low to get work you will really regret it and it reckon its the no.1 reason people give up(that and the rain up north), i had a round in wigan and the prices where shockingl low, i hadnt canvassed it but lad who did underpriced it all, i hated every minute of it and couldnt wait to get shut!!

Don't worry that you have seen loads of other window cleaners...there is plenty of work around...Just get out there and grab a slice of the action for yourself....

Thats what they are doing...

Good luck

Dave.

Maybe I'm one of the window cleaners you see around Ant, I was in Little Lever today, back again tomorrow.

I started Wfp 15 months ago with no customers and now have enough to keep my head above water, but always looking to add quality work.

I don't just work in one area I cover all Bolton and work a different area each day on a 4 weekly rota. I tend not to work close to my own door step. I have just over 200 customers and work 4 days a week around 4 hrs a day. I also work Saturdays occasionally cleaning Conservatories etc.

I haven't done any advertising since last October but regulally pick up work (2 Today ) All from recommendations and people out and about in the street. I know if I did a big push I could easily double my work in a matter of weeks. I found it quite easy to pick up work and think there is plenty of work out there.

If you want a chat drop me an email.

Wayne

BTW. have you seen who we signed today ::)

HI

Why do you work saturdays.... conservatories .. when you only work 4 hours per day .. weekdays?

Hi Ant didn't get the email. wanna try again?

@ Gaz.

I occasionally work Saturdays just by choice, they are normally fairly big jobs and prefer the customer to be in so they can hand over their lovely dosh!! Sundays & Mondays are my days off.

I'm enjoying the pace and income I have now from what is really a PT job, but is delivering an income which closely matches my full time hrs/income as a Site Technician in the paper industry. But, no stress, casual hours, flexible and working outside.

I'm 45 and still deliberating weather to go full on by adding a Gutter Vac system and seriously increasing the WC to the level of employer etc. but I'm quite chilled out at the moment and just wondering if I can be bothered with all the stress and aggro that goes with it.
