Can anyone give me an idea on how much to charge for changing lightbulbs (candle type) in communal areas of apt blocks! They are wall lights & ceiling lights, fairly easily accessible.
 I would be supply  & fitting. Don't want to over price! Any ideas on this one please?

hi there,

you need to charge a reasonable amount, otherwise what s the point of doing it.

i would look at charging an amount per block per month, irrespoective of the number of bulbs being replaced.

therefore add up the total number of bulbs, then calculate the cost,add profit, divide by say 6, then multiply by 12, therefore you have covered bulb cost in  6 months, and then profits after that.

otherwise let them do it themselves. they dont want to do it, as they will know the cost of getting a sparky or odd job bloke out to do it, they would look at £50.00 call out, minimum charge. every visit.

Hi Maggie

I will rewrite yesterdays PM to you today....by the way, i had in there about light bulbs....Ce la vie.

I used to use good quality light bulbs and buy them in bulk. (Osram i think they were called) However I only used to charge per replacement bulb as these bulbs used to last quite a while. I found that using Tesco or Asda own make type bulbs, they didn't last long at all and was constantly replacing them.

I charged a small fee for normal bulbs i.e £1 ontop of bulb cost price and the 'D' ring type bulbs or the expensive energy saving bulbs usually added 40% to the cost price.

The changing of the bulbs would be part of your communal cleaning specs because you are there anyway, checking the bulbs on a weekly basis and changing dead bulbs is just a bonus for you.

Between what I have said and what Martin has suggested, I hope you have a good idea of how to go about pricing up the light bulbs.
