Has anyone else who deals with lady bins been lumbered with the 'Duty of Care Compliance Costs' ?

We have just been sent a letter by Cannon Hygiene to tell us that everyone is being charged a load more money, for no extra service because of a clause in the Enviromental Protection Act.

What do we do now? Go to all our customers, some which haven't been with us very long and tell them that they have to pay an extra £35.00 on top of the £3.00 or so per bin.

The extra charge is payable NOW.

Its news to me, not heard a thing off our suppliers to this effect.

I have heard whispers about Cannon struggling a bit though. Could the extra cost be a smoke-screen? At £35.00 it's almost doubling the cost.

Mmmm, think I'll phone PHS and see if they make the charge.

The letter consists of 11 points, all of which you'd expect to have been a part of the process anyway. Heres a few !!

Provision of qualified staff with extensive enviromental, waste, health and safety and dangerous goods expertise to advise customers on request regarding aspects of legislation

Arranging for customers enviromental audits for both our own waste transfer and any facililities ( e.g., landfill sites, incinerators, treatment plants) we use.

Knowledge of differing aspects of legislation in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Have you ever read such rubbish.

hi there,

i would look at changing supplier,  the supplier has always had a 'duty of care' irrelevant of the product or service that they provide.
