Ran out of water today.
« on: August 02, 2008, 06:01:17 am »
In a mad rush trying to catch up with work, after getting behind this week with the weather, I ran out of water. :(

This time it wasn't so much of a problem as I was pretty close to home - but still far enough away to be a real inconvenience.

So - I was thinking.

Would it be possible to have a Di tank as a back up for when I ( or if) I run out of my Ro'd water.?

So, if I run dry I can quickly connect a Di vessel, fill up with tap water - and away we go again.

I don't expect to run dry very othen, and wouldn't need to filter a huge amount of water thought the Di.

So, what size Di would be best?

Is it just a case of Mains Tap - to Hose Pipe - through Di Vessel - into Vehicle Tank?

Thanks

Exactly that m8... Mains-hose-DI-tank (or direct to pole)

Size of DI is up to you but the bigger the tank the more resin it holds so the more water it can filter.

Having a DI in the van to do the "polishing" of the water as you use it means its already there if you do run out rather than having another unit and so more expense.

A DI vessel isnt that quick in producing water by itself. What are you talking about................50 litres? 100 litres? more? Probably quicker and cheaper to go hoe and run some through thats already been RO'd

I used to carry one when I was working out of a car and the amount of water I could carry was limited. Its an option but I wouldnt write home about it.

Matt des have a point but a DI connected to the mains supply should still produce water quicker than you can use i.
You could consider putting the DI after the tank so it can produce on demand. Just put the hose in to the tank for 10 mins should give you 150 - 200l then just empty out afterwards if you want to by putting the hose than connects to the pump out the back door.

As Mr.H stated, the best way IMO is to have DI on van for polishing off. this way you can fill tank rapidly from tap at any location & purify on demand, then just fill back up at home with ro water ready for next day. ;)

The tds is an issue for resin life yes, but, you have to consider a couple of pounds extra in resin against the time lost + hassle of going home to re-fill.

I live in a soft water area but i do work also in a hard water area. I would never consider going home to fill up regardless of where i was, resin is far cheaper than time for me! ;)
