anyone know how to work out how much water a given amount of resin will treat 
is there a formula to work it out
or a website that calculates it
any info at all really

using that calculator i have worked out that a 700 ml di filled with fresh resin should make about 1000 to 1250 ltrs before tds starts to rise
any way of calculating it more precise
based on tds out of ro for example

I have a TDS of 275 here and a 700ml container knocked onto the end of an RO unit did about 1000 litres.

Much more convenient Forpy  to have a 15 litre container instead though mate.

Some resins will output 7000l at 100ppm so it depends on what product you use

matt i have tds in about 400 or so
out of ro is 20
was going to try two 700mls and do the swapping thing for a while
getting through more water now i have tank in the van
so ro runs for longer each day
i never seem to get 1000 ltrs at 000 tho
mind you i often use 004 ish with no probs

the last lot i had was generic from cleantech
not very good imo
before that was bayer mixed from gardiners which i found much better
the stuff i got from gardiners this time is different in appearance again tho
listed as virgin polymer
made about 500 ltrs and tds now at 003 so i have turned it off
cartridge loose filled tho about 70%

I normally get six months water from my five litre di with water going in at 6. Only got four months when i produced at 14ppm from the ro.

Just looking at the calculator on that site and it's based on a rejection rate of 97% - is that right? Seems a hell of a waste - have i got the wrong end of the stick?

i thought rejection rate was how the ro performs
 took it to mean how low it can get tds down relative to tds of tapwater in
mine goes in at 400 odd
out at 20 to 22
20 is 5% of 400
so i assumed that was a 95% rejection rate
maybe someone who knows will tell us
a far as waste goes i get 2lltrs of pure for 1ltr waste give or take
and anything from 26 to 32 ltrs per hour depending on temp.
anyone want to explain rejection rate in laymans terms

Dave, you can ring any company and ask them for a brochure on their product performance, on that will have a graph which shows ppm vs output. It's called product spec, from that you learn a lot of information.  They will also  tell you that you also need to analyse your water, looks like you have some bad water.
