Cleaning upstairs windows with no wfp or ladders
« on: July 29, 2008, 01:19:28 pm »
I know I ask some stupid questions, so here goes with another one!
I have only been cleaning lower storey windows on shops, pubs, bungalows and a few houses. I don't use ladders or wfp and would like to know it there are any folding/telescopic tools that I can use from ground level to clean upper storey windows and what is the way to use them.

Thanks,
Chris.

Update on my initial post!

The pole with all the attachments works after a bit of practice and you CAN get very good results, but against the time in using a set of ladders there is only one winner!

I use the pole for any windows that I cannot get to, or any windows where it is not safe and I feel it is better to take a couple of minutes longer to use the pole!

Every window, would be ideal but I dont want an average days work taking 2/3hrs longer simply by using a pole!

So it does work and you can get good results, but the extra time it takes to do I would sooner do extra work and earn more!

The results froma non waterfed pole are not going to be the same as it, but you can use a pole from the floor I used to but I always said to customers that I would not guarentee the result as I could not get my hands to the glass (this when I was trad full time) using fairy IMO with a pole like you want is a no no it leaves worse lines (and before the fairies jump in, I used this for years and this is only my opinion.

gg4/3 for pole work leaves less lines (hard as they are to see when working 15ft above your head in the sun) but does make a difference.

I used to use an unger pole, to be honest I would use a harris pole from b&q cheaper and will do the same job and will cost you less.

easy to convert to what you would need for trad work up to 6mtrs

I have tried various ideas out in the  past and all have failed to give good results. More to the point the results were unpredictable which is worse.

the time faffing about with a mop n blade on a pole, you might aswel invest in a backpack, 18ft pole and a RO system. under £500 and soooo much quicker than what your trying to do

i dont care what you say, you cant get brilliant results from doing it that way, ive tried many times, and im good with a mop n blade, for the amount of time wasted doing it that way do what i said

Hi Chris,

Is this because you do not drive?

Hi Chris,

Is this because you do not drive?

Kevin WINDOLENE.

Hello Kevin,
Yes, I do drive, I know that I could use ladders, but prefer not to as I sustained a shoulder injury around 13 years ago, that has lead to arthritis and other problems in my neck that sometimes causes me problems with my balance.
I would feel a lot happier with both feet on the ground, at least if I do have an attack I don't have to fall any further than necessary! ;D
