Silicon type 'glue' on carpet
«

Did a house today but had no joy with what I thought might be childs PVA as it was in a play room. But on inspection felt rubbery and squidgy and is white/transparent.
Tried Citrus gel with my steamer and a chewing gum solvent, no joy, nothing.
Client doesn't know what it is but I was wondering if it is silicon sealer type thing whether anyone has tried the remover that you can buy for stripping old silicon or whether it would mush the carpet as well, it's synthetic.

Mike
Acetone is a good solvent for glues, always worth having some on the van, also isopropanol, white spirit, dichloromethane(Nitromors').
Worth bearing in mind glues which cure will be chemically resitant, epoxies, polyesters etc so not always possible to remove.
Cheers

If it is silcone it is one of the hardest things to remove. There are silicone removers available from diy store now. May be worth trying but test first.
Have used Acetone with little success.

Cheers John
I nipped into B&Q and apart from the price
I don't think it's a goer as the label suggests it's not nice stuff. I'm going to try some on a carpet sample and see what happens.

In a previous life when I used to make Grp RTM moulds for the composite industry, the only thing that would touch silicone was cellulose thinners. Even that didn't work well. Not to sure about it's suitability for carpet cleaning. Wouldn't want to flush it out with an electric machine.
