Hi all,

I got a call today from a woman who asked if I would be interested in cleaning the rugs (unsure of sizes at this time) at various locations throughout my local(ish) area. The furthest I would have to travel would be around 25-30 miles.

I would have to pick up the rugs from the different localities, bring them back home to clean, then take back to the locations fully dried.

I have a few prices in mind. What would you charge for something like this? This could be a regular thing so dont want to outprice myself but dont want to be doing it for free. I am in the north east (not London) so obviously want to charge a reasonably sensible price.

Any ideas guys?

Charge by the rug and add on by the mile, the AA used to have a working out your milage chart.

May be 50p per square foot, get a few in and then drop them off at Paul's at Revita and get a deal with him.

Thanks for that. I dont really want to give the work away to someone else so would prefer to do it myself unless Paul wants to do it for chicken feed! LOL

John, What kind of rugs are they likely to be oriental, afghans, persian or just the next type?

They will most probably be industrial types, the likes of which you see in supermarkets for people to wipe their feet on...so nothing exotic I wouldn't have thought.

Well I think Shauns suggestion is spot on because they will be easy to clean so you will be charging more for your driving time than your actual work time me thinks. Need a logistics expert to clean this rather than a CC

I used to do them all over the north east, 10 years ago , I suggest , £15 a time , but clean them with a pressure washer, the delivery/collection takes longer than the actual job.

Depends on how many but seems a lot of hassle,sunlight used to do this sort of thing changing mats every week or so.Remember to include fuel cost too £20 to £30 a mat if quantity

unless you are doing a round trip  picking 5-6 of them in one go I 'd charge minimum £100 a rug, any less and its not worth the bother

to travel 25-30 miles, pick up 1 rug clean it and then take it back will take a minimum of 2hrs.

If their door mats then a specialist mat rental company can change them weekly for £4 a week.

You need more facts to base your pricing decision on this.

Well the woman on the phone called them 'rugs' but they may well be entrance matting. She is going to email me with the details when she gets around to it. She was quite vague to be honest.

I am not sure how much entrance matting costs and whether it will be worth them paying what I want and not just buy new.

I was thinking of taking a day to pick them up, a day to clean them and another day to take them back so that has to be worth my while. I was thinking something like £650-£750 but again, whether its worth them paying that is another matter!! It is more time taken up picking up and delivering than anything else!

If this is entrance mats, which are to be taken away and returned you will need a second set to replace them, while their away.

Im in the process of writing out a full quotation but ill be charging more than £4 a rug I can tell you that!! 3 days work for £80? No way!
