a littlewhile ago on here i asked if anyone had tried using land drain pipes to baffle an ibc
this got a split in opinion going
some members thought it was a good idea and would work well
another  member said it would not work
he also made a rather patronising post that implied i was wasting my time
but he did sort of apologise after
anyway no one had direct experience of trying it for themselves
 
i spent most of this weekend putting my diy van mount together
on saturday morning the "base" for the ibc was installed
a steel tray with anchor points for the ratchet straps(5 tonne) was bolted to the floor and thru the chassis. While it was being fitted i was busy cutting lengths of land drain pipe and cleaning it up ready for packing out the ibc. Anyway enough waffle,it is now sunday evening and its all finished
does it work




  brilliantly
with 400 ltrs in a 650ltr ibc and no pipes the water slops about like mad
you can feel the effect on the handling but it was not as dramatic as i had been warned it would be
with the pipe in (coiled at the moment in 2.4mtr lengths) and the same amount of water the difference was massive
nothing better than trying things for yourself
i am well pleased with the results

dont know how to and dont have a digital camera good enough to show detail
maybe i will get marcus to try in the week some time
not much to see unless you can get a shot of inside tank
could get some of the "base" tho i was pleased with that too

i must of missed that post, i baffled my 640 ibc with land drainage pipe as they have a larger lid than the 1000 litres, it only needed 4 x  6m lengths instead of the 30 or so 11cm drain pipe,it must be a 1/4 of the weight of regular pipe.

it works a treat !

strange coincidence steve
i used 10 2.4 mtr lengths
so 24 mtrs each
agree it works great
better than i thought it would
it was not my thread originally

if baffled with normal 11cm drain pipe i think i needed 60 or so baffles, thats a lot of sawing!!

A proffesional installation would be no better in my opinion.

i did mine as coils
i had enough pipe to do upright lengths to fill tank
decided to cut it into lengths 3x longer and coil em in
that way if it didnt work i could re cut em
coils worked fine
anyone want to buy 25 mtrs of land drain pipe
oh.....and some 25ltr barrels

still ithought frosty did a great job on the frame and as you have seen the pipes do a top job stopping the slosh

my ibc only has a140 mm opening
i used 100mm perforated
coiled not upright
was gonna try upright if coils did not work
perforated is semi rigid
the stuff you usedis WELL solid
cheaper than downpipe tho
did you do uprights?

i bought an ibc with the larger 20cm diameter lid,the pipe i used i think was 18-19cm diameter,i just dropped them in upright peice of p cake

how many metres did you use... how much is it per metre??  have you still got it... and are you still pleased.
