Imagine my joy when i recently picked up a pub and they asked me to clean inside aswell, all of which are georgian.
All i seem to do is smear the nicotine and leave a mess.Any tips?

I've had success with the Unger pill over GG4.

If the insides haven't been cleaned for a long time, then you have to give the whole thing a good wash. I have found that Unger liquid is pretty good, seems to cut through the tar without too many problems.
Again, if they are really sticky with the gunge I will take the sleeve off the applicator and wash the glass and the frames. With Unger liquid/GG3 etc you get very few suds, so mopping up around the frames with your scrim (or microfibre) is straight forward.
On pub windows I'll use a cut down squeegee (I have half a dozen or so of varying sizes)
Grit your teeth, accept the first clean is going to be a mare.
Subsequent cleans should come up well, but you have to wash and wet all of the glass including the edges of the frame where it meets the glass, if you don't, then the tar will quickly build up and the edges of the panes will start to look smeary.
When using the specialist detergents such as GG3 or unger liquid, repeat cleans are straight forward I have found, personally I always use a squeegee on pub windows regardless of the size of the panes. If it is a non smoking pub that is different, on georgian I'll mist with sprayer and buff clean, not the smoky ones though :-\

We do the insides of a pub every month and .......... although I smoke and wish I didn't - it's disgusting.

This place has white upvc window frames and each month they're yellowy brown.

What we do first is to wash the frames with Mr Muscle (or similar) and then go back round and clean the windows in the normal way.

For the small paines in the doors which are really too small to squeegied - we use Nilsglass 'spray on wipe off' glass cleaner. We tried quite a few glass cleaners and found that was the best brand.

We charge the Landlord 50% extra for doing it like that as obviously, it takes more time.

To start with he wasn't happy at the extra cost but now he more than pleased.

I recently lost a pub with Georgian windows on the change-over of the managers.  The incomming one had his own and I upped the price right up and he wouldn't take me on.

We tried all sorts, but found Mr Muscle window cleaner and lots of elbow grease better than fairy (and lots of elbow grease).

I don't miss it - it used to spoil my Friday mornings.  Ian_Giles used to clean it just after the War (Kings Head) and it's an awful job!  I'm sure he'd agree.

(Sorry Ian).

Hi windows_chepstow

Strangely enough the pub we do is also on a Friday round once a month.

Also strangely enough, I hate doing it to. Every other job I'm fine with but that one - it's the Sussex Coaster in Peacehaven, East Sussex - any takers?

I have a few pubs on my round with the same problem. GG4 does the business.

Ahh, the Kings Head Tosh, darn'd hard work that one, wonder who it is that has taken it on?
If they are cheap, they won't last long, ditto if they have to travel a fair ways to do it, won't pay them to do it, odds are it will be up for grabs again in a couple of months.....forgive me if I don't race you to get it ;D I prefer to talk to you & your missus and slow you down as you are cleaning it ;)

Hello all,

The old yellow cig marks!!! Please contact me as my FPT-600 cleaner degreaser removes nicotine staines from glass, plastics (including PC's I use it on mine), metal, etc.

I supplied a customer last October who used it at a distribution company in their smoking room!!  It was disgusting, and that's from someone that smokes, the product was used on the windows and the metal ceiling tiles with excellent results.

FPT-600 is an aqueous based product and is non-caustic, non-hazardous, ph neutral, bioremedial, readily biodegradeable and totally environmentally safe.

I would be glad to hear from any of the posters with regards to this problem.

Regards

Darren Sharpe
