CRB Checked Staff!!
« on: July 15, 2008, 06:00:51 pm »
How do you go about checking your staff's  criminal record?

I have seen this advertised with jobs myself and about to advertise for someone to work along with me but would also like to do the same?

do any of you guys do this too?

Dave.

You have to approach an approved local company to do it for you , ie nursing home , big cleaning firm,

I thought if your taking on staff you can get them checked and it cost about £20.
The only thing is you can't get yourself checked & have to have this done by another business.

Why does it have to be done through a nursing home or something  ??? i posted i site up were you can get them done?

It says on the crb site

"If you are going to work as a paid employee or as a volunteer for an organisation and your work will bring you into contact with children or vulnerable adults, you may be asked to apply for a CRB check"

Well to me we work with alderly adults so why carnt we get employees checked?

Its a very simple procedure. There are lots of agencies out there who will do it for you (search google "CRB check")

There are two classes of CRB check -

First is a 'basic check' - more than enough for what you need. Cost is around £60 and yes, you can get them done no problem at all.

Second is a 'detailed check' and this can only be done if you have a contract with a school / local authority / hospital. They must write to you and ask you to provide a detailed CRB check on any staff member who is likely to work (or come into contact with) vulnerable adults or children. Unless you have that letter the agencies are unable to provide the detailed report.

On another point how many people have done work for schools without being asked for CRB checked because i have  :o  these days i think any workers going into schools should be checked.

Depends when it is though, if you are going to come into contact with the kids then yes I agree a check should be done however if the only time that you are on the site is say out of term time whats the point?

If you wanted to do it , you have to set yourself up as an autherised person, which costs Money and lots of time.

if you just want to check a couple of staff then i stick by first post.

crb checks are not worth a light
They are only valid for the day the check is made.
Look at the Soham Murders- School Caretaker wasn't it ??
Its another tax thats all.
In principle the idea is good and is required
In practise waist of time
That should stir it a bit ::) ::)

I dont want to do it i just want to check a lad before i take them on that they have no criminal records or steeling or such like! before letting them lose on peoples property.

I understand that having if they have no record that it means they aren't going to steal!
