Hi all

In my contract cleaning capacity I was asked to quote for the cleaning of rooms in a residential home.  Whilst there I just happened to mention, as you do, that we also clean carpets

I was asked to provide a quotation for this as well, Great! I thought, until I saw them!

The place is quite an upmarket home, the carpets are wool, plain golden yellow in colour, yes wool, plain golden yellow in a residential home.  Could only do a burn test as I didn't have my kit with me.

I have no problems with the cleaning, my concerns is the method of cleaning.  They have a rug doctor and 'do what they can'.  If I set my steampro up in the corridor, will it be too noisy?  Do I need to use another method - rotary?

You can imagine the condition of the carpets so a deep clean is needed.  Is HWE the way in residential or should I be looking at rotary?  if so which system?

Due to the type of contamination you will be faced with HWE is the only method you should consider.

I fully concur with Nick.  There will be a lot of uric salt that requires neutralisation and rinsing.

Do not promise too much in terms of stain removal, especially as the carpets have already been treated in an unknown manner.

Also consider leaving you machine outside the building as the exhausted air is likely to be unpleasant and better not vented inside.

Hi Nick, thats what I thought, the noise was the biggest concern

Thanks John, don't think 75' of hoses will reach the furthest room, could hang the pipe through a window i suppose!  but then there should be fire exits dotted about the place so it may be a good possibility, I'll have a look when I go back.

25' gets from the ground to first floor with quite a bit to spare. That gives you over 50' + wand length to wander round with - and the the machine is a 'portable'

Why not sub it out to a TM’er  and let them do the hard work while you sit back with you feet up and take a cut.
