Hi, I have a 40" ro system and Iam thinking of fitting another 40" ro to give me quicker fill, I have pre filters and a 18" DI. How do I add the second RO and will it give me faster filling?

Have you got a decent pump fitted to it?  I was advised that your better off with a decent pump rather than two ro's and no pump. good advise in my mind the pump makes all the difference

I know that RO man recommends twinning the RO's as an upgrade. Yes a pump will allow the RO to produce more water at a quicker rate but twinning the RO is the next stage. You can take it further. RO man says that you can have 3 membranes per system.

There's a diagram as well to show you how you would fit it. The diagram shows the fitting for one of their systems but, you can do the same with other RO's

Pumps are noisy and problematic. If your tap pressure is anyway decent, I'd double up before I considered a pump.

its simple to do mate,

take the waste tap & hose off your existing ro,then get some regular hose and link the waste of your 1st ro to the inlet of your new ro.
then put the tap on the waste of your new ro

what you have is 1 waste pipe and 2 purfied pipes, ive just linked those together but you can leave seperate, it makes no difference just less hose being used

this is suposed to be the most efficient way to run twin 40" ro's, i run mine off just hose pressure

Do you have any idea what the waste from the first Ro going into the second is ? will that not kill the second ro quick  as waste coming from my 4040 is in the 6/700s
I am asking because I am interested in doing this myself for a new setup.

The waste from my 1st ro is about 470,not sure on what effect it has on the 2nd ro,
at that reading it probably wont last as long ,but it is suposed to be the most efficent way,i can fill up a 640 ibc in a couple of hours, not sure on how it works with 2 feeds and 2 waste

i got my info from sureclean, if you phone them they give you more info, there really helpfull

Ok, the waste from the first RO go's into the feed on the second RO. Do both the outlets feed linked into the DI. If they do, do they sufer from back pressure? Want to get this right.

After carbon filter the feed is split between 2 ro's both producing to the outlet. increase pressure to a single ro same result almost.

i have a static ro & tanks, i then transfer from there to my 640 ibc in the van via a sub pump which takes only 8 mins(handy if you have a big job locally and run out of water), my DI vessel is in the van that way if there is any dirt in the tank it filters that too and as its not connected to the ro it wont effect its performance

the pic posted b4 was as chris@c.m.s described, this one ive edited quickly is the way ive set mine up , im pretty sure this way uses less water it doubles the pure water and reduces the waste,the other way you double your fresh and double your waste

Theres a tap on the waste pipe that regulates the pressure but when opened allows ro to be flushed

im no expert, but i guess when you turn the tap to flush theres no exit pressure so the water just flushes through and is not pushed through the membranes

that setup saves water and increases production rate - however if you really want to increase fill times then the best way is to split your feed into both inlets and have 2 seperate drains.

this is how my twin 4040 is set up, with a booster pump.

600ltrs/hr @ 100psi.
