getting through balconies
« on: June 27, 2008, 06:06:48 pm »
hiya. i'm quoting on a big retirement home on tuesday.

nice job except it has those balconys on french doors on the second floor.

they go halfway up the door and the vertical bars are only about 2 to 2 1/2 inches apart. i'm not sure my bentley brush will fit through the gap, so I was wondering how you guys get round them?

i'm thinking I might need to get a slim salmon brush?? ??? :)

I done one today, i use my pole with a goose neck as only need to worry about thickness of the plastic on the brush but find it hard when using just pole and brush.

is there anyway you can get a pic of it ?
I have quiter a few places that have balconies some I can angle a vikan into clean half glass, put in another and do the other side, then rinse from the top with high flow.

Some I have have glass infront I clean half and rinse (customer choice) they say they come up fine, others just cant be cleaned.

can you not clean them from the inside ? it will save you a lot of time per window.

Sometimes there is enough of a gap to get your brush in at the bottom, you have to get up close to the wall and use a flexible pole.
The ones with straight up and down bars are easy compared to some that I do were the bars run diagonal. The latter were a real pain until I realised that I could get in through the bottom gap.

Not come across diagonal ones as yet, saying that I dont think I have ever seen them either  ::)

All in all they are a pain in the back side to clean, and how they can call a metal grid a balcony I will never know.

just drove past on my way home.... there is quite a gap at the bottom which I hadn't noticed.

if I have my pole almost vertical, I think I can clean the bottom half that way.

many thanks

 :)

I have to agree, don’t give yourself a lot of hassle, if we can’t get a window from the ground it doesn’t get do, we have only lost one job in 5 years WFP because we could get to the balconies...make life easy...not hard

I like your style!

if it's too awkward i'll take that approach, but I would like to do them if not too bad

we have been asked to do some like this and it is worth putting in a bit of effort and thought into doing them because you can charge quite a bit more for doing them as most other w/cleaners wont be able to do them at all
bill
there are more windows than window cleaners so lets help each other
