My 60psi flojet finally died this week after just over 3 years hard graft, never used a varistream just a bypass which works very well, ordered a new pump from cleantech on tuesday, they only sell shurflo, i was promised that the new pump would arrive on wednesday which it didn't, i phoned on thursday and was told 'oh sorry we didn't realise but they were out of stock when you ordered but it should be with you by friday'!! Not happy but soldiered on using the dreaded backpack for another day, pump finally arrives 11am on friday, connected it up but found out that they had not included the T junction that they promised for my bypass!!! so i just connected it up as it was, the flow rate seems a lot less than the flojet i am used to, and the flow seems to vary a lot for some reason, i phoned cleantech and was told that is how it is supposed to be, and that they will send me out a T junction, although i cant really see the need for a bypass now as the flow rate is so feeble anyway. All in all I am not happy with this pump at all compared to my old flojet, and the usually good service from cleantech was on this ocassion  very poor,  I feel i have wasted £80 on this pump, and wish i had got another flojet!! Does anyone else find this with the shurflo pump?

What size is the surflow ? is it 100psi ?

Yes Ian its a 100psi pump, which I assumed would mean it would pump the water out faster than the 60psi, but it seems i was completely wrong!

I am shocked to be honest, my flow I thought was high on my vid and yours seemed very low compared. I use 100psi SF pumps.

perhaps I have a faulty pump then Ian, I don't know, but when I phoned cleantech I was told that the flow rate on a 100psi shurflo is lower than that of a 60psi flojet! I will have a play with it tomorrow and see if I can work out whats going on, if I cant improve the flow rate on it tomorrow I think I will ask for my money back.

Flow rate is completely separate from PSI. It should be printed on the label on the pump itself. Window cleaning pumps are rated at less than 4 litres a minute normally.

the manufactures instructions recommend you dont use a flow controller this must be why yours is failing why dont you try a varistream

This Shurflo 60psi blasts water out twice as fast as my old 60psi Flojet.
Figure that out...

For that reason I preferred the Flojet.

The Shurflo is quieter, smoother, has a switch on top...etc...etc...
But it's just tooooo powerful.

I have 3 60 psi flojet pumps 2 off them are over 3 years old.

Never had a problem with them and i use no varistream no bypass and they just keep going.

I had one pump go two years ago that was also a flojet but it froze solid and cracked.

I often see people on here say there pumps packed up and 9 times out of 10 its a surflo pump.

But i suppose you have been unlucky having a flojet go

i have to say i dont like the shurflo pumps we had a flojet for years with no probs and as reported on here a few weeks ago when we had to replace it we were sent a shurflo, it packed up after about 2 weeks, this was supplied by the freedon trolley people and they offered to send us a replacement pressure switch at a reduced price but said it wasnt covered by warranty as we hadnt used a controller....noone told us that when they took our money for it.....after a couple more weeks it packed up again and after having a look at the pressure switch i realised that it was the microswitch that was brning out, bought a few from maplins £1.20 each and now am covered if it packs up again, i would go out of my way in future to get flojet though i think they are much more robust

The pump I sold you for £50 was brand new, but had been on the shelf in my garage for 12 months.

I might be able to help you out with a free Varistream and a pump, but cannot do any thing till sunday afternoon. As I just have to much on, I will ring you sunday afternoon.

Just want to thank Roy Harding for getting me up and running again.

A trip up to his house this evening, and all sorted.
I've now got a working pump and varistream.
Looking forward to trying it now.
