Tip for filling DI's
« on: June 23, 2008, 08:20:56 pm »
After over four years of filling my DI vessels i can't believe i've not done this before (must be a very small brain wave).

After filling vessel with resin 3 quarters full as usual it has always been a pain getting the riser tube in again perfectly straight so the threads don't cross. So, the other day when i filled one of my DI's with fresh resin i then filled it up with water first- hey presto! riser tube almost straight in with no hassle & no pressure probs on innitial start up!

Just thought i'd share this with you incase anyone has had similar probs. ;)

Pure water or RO water? Tap water would ruin the resin wouldn't it..?

Well I never knew it either!

I always recommended filling it 3/4 full and then using a broom handle to create a shaft for the riser to go in.

I will try that next time I refill my emergency DI tank.

I too have never used water in the vessal, then again I never seem to get any problems fill to neck put in riser tube screw on. gives about 3/4 maybe 4/5 full.

always pure water the threads after putting in resin.

Also depends on the resin type, with some it is easier to insert the tube

This is how I fill my vessel.

Put the riser tube in first, with a wine cork in the top to prevent any resin going in it.

Get a gutter hopper and place in neck of vessel.

Fill with resin.

Screw down riser top.

Bob's your uncle.

I use a cut off funnel from B&Q, tip in , put on riser tube quick rinse on threads to make sure no resin in screw down , and fanny's ya aunt
