Why is it?
« on: June 23, 2008, 05:55:17 pm »
Why is it when you are trying to build up your round the jobs come in in dribs and drabs, now I dont want new work the phone wont stop ringing!!

At the moment I am trying to reduce my round as other projects are taking off so I dont have much time for as many windows.  But as I work my round most custys are giving me names and numbers of friends and relatives who want my services.
I get home and have 2 or 3 messages on the phone.    I suppose I should nt grumble, but my waiting list is growing and my normal round isnt shrinking yet.

I am now thinking, should I stick with the windows and maybe miss out on a different oppertunity or bite the bullet and try to aaim in a slightly new direction.
Ohh decisions decisions.

Maybe its a good time to save the money you are looking to spend on a new pressure washing machine and pass on the pressure cleaning work you have lined up and earn a good commission.  ;D  ;D

have thought about selling off some of my work, but will try and keep going till I'm sure this other work will be as good financially as I hope.

All the new names and numbers I am getting I go and give them a quote so I know what sort of jobs they will be .   One chap said he is willing to wait till we can fit him onto the round as we have been highly recomended.  That cheered me up.
Its just funny as we are spending no money at all on advertising.  In the past we have done big ads in papers and printed 100's of flyers etc and not got much in return.

Dont be daft squeaks, I aint moaning like that.  Its just timing, thats all.

get some one you can trust to service the round for you...
take a small percentage....and get them to go self employed.
you bill them they pay you

Exactly!

I sold off a large bite of work last year, stuff we didn't like, and this year we've been leafletting affluent areas and taking on new work at much better prices.

When you're up to the 'gunnells' in work, it's awkward to make time to go quoting for stuff; so selling  off/passing on/dropping stuff you don't like makes sense if you can use that spare time for make new and better work.

It's just a numbers game; there's plenty of work out there; you've just got to get it.

I'm targetting drive-between jobs, within a five-mile radius of where I live of £20 plus; and it's working out really well.  I picked up a nice £35.00 one today.

Good idea craig,
Tosh, thats pretty much my plan.  Stream line the round so I have just enough good priced custies I can still manage every month ontop of my other commitments.  I'd rather have 50 custies at £40 each month than 100 at £20.
