I went to a customers house today to price guttering,upon telling her the price she said she didnt want to pay that much, and would rather pay for new guttering,and the mess she doesnt see so wasnt that bothered un-yet SHE called ME???make any sense?

The house has 4 bedrooms,a seperate toilet upstairs and down the house also has a granny attic joined on with 2 conservatories aswell as a garage the guttering goes around the house 4 sides and the granny attic (bungalow)aswell as the garage and both conservatories.

I quoted her £235.00 to clear and clean all and a window clean afterwards?

Well, around the South West area, that price is way, way over the top.  Obviously I can't speak for where you are.

This is just a gutter clean and clear and window clean?  I'm thinking 2 hours work?  If the job is local I would have thought 100 would be a reasonable charge.

Just my opinion, for what its worth.

if you have a few houses to do ie 3 semis i think you could charge around 35.oo per house..this would take a couple of hrs to do for a two man team off ladders (north of england figures)

I think your price sounds about right.

if you have plenty of work, you have no need to quote cheaply.

also, I think that that kind of work is more effort than cleaning windows so why quote cheaply?

forget about it... the next one you quote might rip your arm off!

if cleaning gutters the trad way do not price cheap, the jobs are not regular, call a gutter cleaning company yourself and ask for a qoute on your own house you will be shocked at what they charge

I Charge about £100 for something like a 4 bed detatched.
I find if i quote more then they dont accept the quote.

Or the inside of the gutters as well?

Where I am about £100 is about right.  But it does differ from area to area.  If you dont really need the work then dont worry about it?

Wanted to charge £250 but thought that might sound too much to the cust so compromised between £200-250.

I have just read the quote on £235 for cleaning guttering, fascias etc and also thought that is over the top having done my own & next doors house.
However on going onto MissyShell website they do check inside guttering with cctv camera first.They not only clean outside but inside guttering as well so I presume price does include inside as well.
I must admit I only used water on my guttering etc but they also use detergent.If all this is done then maybe the price is getting near the mark. Doing all the insides of guttering as well must take a lot lot longer time wise.

Doing my own fascias I just attched WFP to the outside tap which does justa good job but no practical when sometimes going to other peoples house,and since it is my own house it did not matter,as long as her indoors was happy

I recently finished a commercial gutter clearing job, and I priced it at £3 a metre, this was just to clear out the debris not clean the outside or anything. Without seeing the house it is hard to say if this is expensive or not, how long do you expect the job to take you, because if it is an all day job then that is a very fair price in my view. Don't expect to get every job that you price for, gutter cleaning is hard work, so don't go in cheap. If I have to clean out gutters it has to be worth my while, and I would expect to make more than I would cleaning windows, otherwise its not worth my while.

I went to see this Job yesterday and Shell's price was spot on, its a 4 bedroom detached house with a huge conservatory attached to the back, attached to the side of this house is a large bungalow with 3 sides of guttering and again on the rear of the bungalow is a large conservatory.

She gave a fair price for 2 peoples work, I would like to see her replace all that guttering for less than £240
Like I told you Shell, some you win some you loose. I would like to put a bet down now, you will get the call.

A guy around here is quoting way over the odds at £300 per 3 bedroom detached house, the thing is he's getting the work, but I'm getting his refusals.
Were getting more and more guttering to do and this is without advertising, Shell and I were out doing a couple of shop fronts at 7:00am this morning.

How do you calculate your quotations?

Is it so-much per metre plus so-much per conservatory pane plus so-much per other thing?

Or do you look at the job and, using your experience, say something like, "That's X hours work at £Y per hour is £Z.
