Hi Ian
I use this lance from northerntool
www.northerntooluk.com/products.asp?partno=22824E

With it you need to purchase a set of 5 nozzles and right at the bottom you have the gutter tool,  you need this as well, these items are on the right hand side.

Now the pressure washer is petrol, I first bought a cheap one from Toolstation and used this with no problems, I then had a chance to buy a bigger and more powerful one, so bought it, I used it on 3 Jobs and to be honest it was hard work as the lance tends to shoot up into the air when this happens you lower the lance into the guttering and do the Job, then when you release it, it comes crashing down hard onto the guttering, this can damage the lance and or the guttering, but the main thing was, It was like fighting with a whale on the end of a fishing rod.

I reverted back to my cheap pressure washer and at the end of the day My arms are fine, not something you could say when using the powerful  one.
And it does just as good a Job.

Apart from the problem with the little hole in my last post the whole of the front took around 20 minutes to complete, that's inside the guttering, outside, facias and soffits, you can normally do a house like the one in my pictures in less than an hour, That does not include setting up time, and I must add, it takes a few houses to get the hang of it, once you get the knack you can fly around a house in no time.

Also good for Upvc  cladding and the metal cladding they have on commercial buildings.

Many thanks for the reply Jeff,

I have just been to the site and had a look, how do you clean gutters out with a straight metal pole or have a missed something, I can see this being a great add on with less hassle than the way I do it at the mo.

If you go to the link again and scroll right down the bottom on the right hand side you will  see a picture of the gutter cleaner,

Its not very clear in the picture but its U shaped, I'll see if I still have the close up pictures of the bits you will need

Apart from the Lance, these are the bits you need, you can get away with one high pressure nozzle and one low pressure, but your better off buying the pack of 5.
The whole lot, note the black Jet with the bigger hole, this is the low preassure Jet for applying your detergents.

With this pic you can see a white Jet fitted to the gutter section, and were you see the black jet, this is were you can also fit the jets for the external cleaning, there all quick fit connectors.

This bit comes with the gutter cleaner and just screws on the end, you then add the gutter tool to this section or remove it to add Jets.

Just found this pic

Not meaning to sound thick, how do you apply the ecover with it ?

Also while I am here can I get ecover online ?

Sorry for all the questions, but this interests me a great deal.

I'm not 100% sure if ecover truck wash is available on line, I have my custy coming to my house on Saturday, She supplies me with it in 5ltr containers so I'll ask her about sales.
You can use TFR if you have that, ecover is a reasonable selling point when you tell them is safe on there hanging baskets and if they have a fish pond.

Applying your detergent is simple, make sure when you buy a pressure washer it has a detergent bottle fitted to it, fill it up with your chosen detergent, add the low pressure Jet (black  one) and just pull the trigger of the lance, it takes a few seconds for it to come through, but when it does you'll know it.

Leave your detergent to do its Job, By the time you get from one end to the other I just add the high pressure Jet and carry straight on with it.
If you get any stubborn dirt a very quick flip with your brush and its off, reblast and the Jobs a gooden.

Now i see where im going wrong i bought the gutter lance thats bendy from a differant place and came with a brass jet.

I will just have to get the pack of 5 and i would be away.

I did do gutter with my lavor pressure washer and extendible lance but controlling the top of the lance was at times a nightmare it was like something from a rodeo.

I also did conservatory roofs with it until the lance whipped up and crashed back down and nearly when through the roof glass.

That was the problem I had when I changed over to the bigger pressure washer, a whale on the end of a fishing rod describes it well, Then I went back to my cheaper washer and although it still rears up and down, its no were near as bad.

The only time I turn the lance onto a conservatory roof is from a distance so it cleans any mess on there that I have made.

The lance from northerntool can be used on most ordinary houses without extending the top section, this helps with reducing the whip.

I think you can buy any of the jets singly, so if its only the low pressure one you need, just buy that one.
I should check availability with them, a member on the academy has just informed me that the gutter tool and jets are not in stock.

You will get the black water run down the back of the guttering, but don't let this put you off?
Start at the end furthest from down pipe, let the black water run at the back and don't panic, just continue this way until you reach the down pipe, most of any big stuff will have blown out by the time you reach the end, if not it will have been watered down so much by the pressure that it will flow into the down pipe with no problems.
When you get to the down pipe, stick your Jet into the down pipe and give it a 10-15 seconds blast, listen for the water running down the pipe if you can't see it.

If the guttering has what I call an extra garden growing out of it, you may have to remove this first, this is why I designed my Mk1 gutter cleaner that I posted pictures on.
I spent to long on a Job that had extra Gardens, just by using the lance, it will eventually blast the deep rooted ones out, but its time consuming, and I like to get a Job done with speed and good results.

Once you have cleaned out the guttering and you feel happy with the job, remove the gutter tool, Just the U shaped bit, add your jet to the straight piece (not the pencil jet if you purchased the set of 5 nozzles) the Jet you need first of all, is the black one, the one with the largest hole, fill your detergent bottle up in your pressure washer and begin the application of your detergent, (this takes a few seconds before it comes out.)
Start at one end and apply your detergent to the guttering, facia and soffits as you go along the run, once you reach the opposite end, then change your low pressure jet  for one of the high pressure jets of your choice again not the pencil jet.

Begin your cleaning from the point you first applied your detergent, starting on the external section of the guttering, clean all the guttering including the back of it, the black you washed out and that run down the facia's will now begin to be removed, it takes seconds before it runs clear, once you see clear water move on and continue until the run is complete.

It will take you a few houses to get a knack for it, I find that once you have the knack, you will learn to adjust your lance height until your comfortable with it, I found resting the lance on my hip can speed you along in comfort as your hip is taking the weight of the lance and not  your arms.

Once the job is complete, its time to tidy up, take a soft sweeping brush with you and clean up any large pieces that may be there, don't bag it up but put it around any plants in the garden as its mainly rotting plant matter and becomes good compost for the plants.

Get your lance and just spray from a distance any other dirt laying around, don't go to close to the ground with your lance or you start to clean dirty concreate etc, just use enough spray to move the dirt you created, and direct it again to a drain or bush area. The whole cleaning job shouldn't take more than 10 minutes, any dirt left in drains can normally be washed away, if its big clumps, again just put it around the roses.
HTH?

Hi Dave
If you don't make the effort to remove the extra gardens as I call them before you begin the clean, then I can see there could possibly be a problem, one of which I have never had yet.
I take with me (Just incase) a steel mouse on a reel, if blasting from the top with the lance doesn't work, then I would run my mouse up from the bottom and break it down, then finish with a blast from the top again.

If you do a Job correctly to begin with, this problem won't accrue, there is to much water for the drains to become blocked, as underground drainage is in 4'' pipes.
