The gel coat is wearing off the inner sections of one of my fibreglass poles leaving it fibrous. These fine fibres occasionally pierce my skin and make parts of my hands sore. I've tried wearing latex gloves but really do not like them. I was wondering if there was any way to 're-seal' the poles to prevent this happening.

Has anyone tried this with an success? If so what with and how?

give them a coat of engine laquer it works a treat cost around £5 from any motor spares .

Is there anything special about engine lacquer (apart from the fact its clear) or can it be any hard paint or varnish?

engine lacquer is really hard wearing vince ,ive tryed other like hammerite but it soon wears down , a good yatch varnish minght be ok but ive never tryed with this , when your poles are wearing just give it a coat or two and as good as new again

yes it willl fill in the marks , your pole will be as good as new just take your time give it a rub down with fine wet and dry to give a key rub down in between coats 2 coats is plenty .

jikwan its not a spray , how i did my face lift was go to a fishing tackle shop and get a pole holder , fill this with lacquer and a bit of thinners bung the ends of the pole up and dip in the lacquer then hang up to dry , rub down with fine wet and dry then repeat your pole then is as good as new

sounds like a good effective method dave
incidentaly to greatly reduce wear on poles ive found
flushing the pole once or twice a day gives good results
as soon as you hear any grinding noises-do it then

the stuff i use steve is in a paint tin and is applied with a brush , but i reckon the spray will work , but the best way ive found was to dip it like explained in previous post .
