Gaffer Tape Marks On York Stone
« on: June 13, 2008, 06:18:55 pm »
Hi All

Anybody else come across this?
Pattern resembling a tennis court following removal of temporary floor
laid for building work. Appears as pale lines on dry floor which darken when wet. Floor is sealed with solvent impegnator with traffic wax on top.
Have tried scrubbing with Dymastrip but not much improvement.
I'm guessing glue solvent has reacted with impregnator.
Any suggestions?

Cheers
Chris

Hi Rob

I did consider steam but there's no surface residue. It looks almost as the glue has drawn colour from the stone.

Cheers

I'd be inclined to wait because if its a solvant thing them any effect will probably fade as its gone in and not sat on top, or has drawn out the colour either way I suspect it will go on its own

Got to be sorted by Friday,  so leaving it not an option unfortunately.

I think Friday may be a problem, If theres nothing left on top, then the problem has been either drawn up or its a chemical thing - This may sound stupid but you could cover the whole floor in tape then it would be even colour. Sorry if you think it is a stupid idea ??? ??? ???

Thanks for the suggestion. Sometimes unconventional things work, but the area is too large. :)

Chris,

The floor sealant/impregnator will have to be removed, and the stone allowed to dry-out before before any cleaning/re-sealing takes place.

Check out a manufacturer called `Lithofin`.........they sell a range of products for natural stone based materials, I believe a product called `Lithofin Wexa`, (alkaline cleaner) should do the trick, but I would ask there advice first on your problem!

Chris,
I can also say that Lithofin products are very good, I use their stain stop on certain surfaces.
Here is a link for Lithofin's site,  www.lithofin.de/frames.asp?page=start
And here is a link to a UK out-let.  www.pureadhesion.co.uk/store/

Thanks Roger and Keith

Before I spend any serious time on this I'll need the authority of whoever caused the problem.
I'll have a look tomorrow to see what it's like dry, and I'll mention these products to the customer.

Cheers

Chris
