where have all the trad guys gone?
« on: June 11, 2008, 12:53:36 am »
every day this site seems to be more and more a wfp only site.
has trad w/c become a thing of the past and every one jumped on the old band wagon or is it because trad w/c dont involve loads of banging on about which kit is best?

please raise your hand if you reg trad w/c!

I am still trad. I think wfp is probably the way of the future though. Am converting over slowly.

When I joined this forum there was only one WFP cleaner posting on here. That was Justin Ruggles, in fact, he was virtually the only domestic WFP user in the country.

He gradually converted a few diehards who saw the opportunity that WFP presented and one by one they changed over.

After that the floodgates opened but I can still remember the fantastic arguements that used to run and run between the trad and WFP users. Friday nights were particularly lively, getting more so as the evening wore on.

Its a shame that the old trad guys don't seem to be on here anymore. There are quite a few names that you just don't see.

They probably got sick of being wrongly looked down on by some wfp guys.
To be fair, if I hadn't gone gone wfp a year or so ago, I doubt I'd be here now.

It used to do my head in, all this "I'm better than you" rubbish.

the guys who put down trad w/c crack me up.

but in a bad way! i think for the future of this forum the mods should crack down on the micky taking of trad guys. sooooo many leave because of it. if im a cow boy for trad w/c then so be it. i've been on me own for a year and making a very good living from it. with next to no out goings on tools. and half the worries. never lose jobs from poor workman ship and am as fit at a butcherdog!  :-*

I am trad and do not think I would ever become WFP due to me living in a terrace house with a tiny garden so nowhere to put all the stuff.

squeaks, i don't believe that. You seemed to relish in it. Like a red rag to a bull! I reckon you miss trad for that reason alone.  ;D

Trad is proper window cleaning, wfp is what you have to do to keep your business up with the times.
far more skill to doing trad, not only being able to use a blade but also solving access problems, jumping sills, hanging out of windows, running up ladders, not just any 'silly boy' can do it.
I can't believe there are peolpe on here that can't trad.
There will always be a place for trad in this business i.e insides.
I can do both by the way, and won.t use anyone that can't.

gave my job up other week to go fullt time with her Dad. He gives me money at the end of the week and i only use Trad. I have all my equipment for WFP but still to ge tit fitted intoa van. I will still use trad as load sof work is commercial work i.e. shop fronts which suit trad better than wfp due to access.

quite handy with a blade now and do insides and outs. Also work with poles aty height which i am getting used to.

I haven't been here long, but I have been quite taken aback by this wfp versus trad thing.  I have 13 years experience trad, and 2 years wfp.  A good friend of mine got me into the wfp thing.  While it has advantages, it has disadvantages.  I feel the wfp crew exaggerate the difference,  just to get at the trad guys.  I feel wfp is overrated here, if your a quick trad guy there isn't much in it.  Factor in the extra cost of wfp, there is little to choose in my opinion.

If you can do both well, your laughing - they both have a place.  If I know what I know now though, I don't know I'd have bothered with wfp.  I would simply go trad and, target work that suited trad.

In summary, I think what you read here from wfp guys is often due to the fact they are on the wind up, or were slow trad window cleaners.  I'm sure wfp suits some rounds more than others, so I'm sure there are a few guys just speaking as they find.
