ive seen a relay near me, but i think its only 1.9 diesel, are they a bit of a lump to drive, especially with the weight, my partner is a 1.9 diesel and its ok but struggles on some hills with the weight, and the relays are bigger and will have more weight in

anyone enlighten me?

relays are either 2.2, 120 bhp or 2.1. 100 bhp. They do do bigger engines but that is in the 4 metre long body shells and the campers

you sure its not a citroen dispatch we have a couple of the 1.9 and when full there is nothin in them but they are great vans but i will be gettin 1 with bigger engine next time.

You may find the Relay has a turbo fitted ( Possibly in fairly newer models), best to check.
When the turbo is fitted to the Relay, it is much better all round than the similar engine sized Expert non turbo.

spoke to a mechanic yesterday and advised me to go for the 2;hdi engine , said they are bullet proof !

They are meant to be, they just are not Ian Proof

i have a 2.0hdi on a 53 plate ...not much guts on them ... struggles with a 650.. much prefered my transit ... really strong engines in them.. gutted i got rid of it.

What was the actual problem in the end with van?

the bottom end of the engine ceased solid easy start helped do this .

The quickest way for me to get van back was another engine

Have you taken this up with easy start? It seems wrong that they should cause more problems than actually solve them. They should pay for the repairs if you ask me!

No not taken it up with them, and the AA should not have used it either.

I have most of a van if anyone wants it free.

If you have kept the old engine put the undamaged? head on ebay. Wont make you a fortune but someone will want it!

I am as soon as the garage take it off got to be worth couple of hundred.

Certainly should be. I had an mk3 Astravan that I wreaked the head on and to get it replaced and the thing repaired was well expensive. The reason was the head was hard to get hold of.  When I got rid of the van as scrap I took the head off and flogged it to the garage that had done the work. I sold it to them for £300 and the rest of the van for £30 to the scrappie. If I had sold the whole thing complete I would of prob. got £100 max! There is sometimes more money in the separate parts than the whole van!
